So many artists succumb to wearing a claustrophobic straight jacket that limits organic spontaneous free flow, inhibiting curve ball ideas and originality. Writers need give birth to themselves, not obey the confines preached by so called “Norms from Experts.” Self consciousness and insecurity may kick in but get past that barrier and smell the roses. Great you yourself overcame this hurdle and found success, there aren’t many making green lighted films USA during pandemic but your one of them.
Success; decide if you want it more than you are afraid of it.
Don't worry about the film before you have the screenplay. Focus on crafting a great script first.

As I continue to research the industry I get slightly worried because the scripts I'm working on are a Sports movie/ medieval movie/ Viking movie, and everything I read is stressing that for newbie writer's, action and Horror is what I should focus on. So for all the experienced writers, do you guys feel pressured to not necessarily working on passion projects, instead writing for the Market?
Thanks for your time!
What Dan MaxXx , Nick Assunto and William Martel said.
if you're new, then write what you want. Follow your passion and just enjoy writing. As a newbie, these are considered writing samples and if you're lucky you'll get noticed as such and get staffed.
I'm in agreement with the majority that I read above. Write 1 at a time. Set a goal and finish all 3, just not all at once. It's good to have a portfolio. A lot of rookies/newbies/dreamers just want t...

A lot of rookies/newbies/dreamers just want to sell their ideas. Doing the work sets you apart from that lot. And as others said, get better, write, study, rewrite.
And yes, horror is big right now. I have absolutely zero interest in that genre. I don't even like anything that's rated R, with smut or curses. That leaves me with Hallmark basically. I write barely PG13 (if that) and you know what? You'll next learn how to pitch and where to pitch. There's a market for your passion. Like Dan said, probably not union, but there are always other like minded creatives with a similar passion. Good luck to you!
Uh, a dozen and some including the shorts....first written was in 2001 (feature), first produced in 2003 (short)...
I wrote my first tv script and sold it to MTM in 1972 - my career has been in steady decline ever since then.
Heaps. Some die at the first draft. 2015
