Roy Hsu is a screenwriter and actor living in Seattle. He grew up in Kansas and Pennsylvania as a gay kid in a Chinese Southern Baptist family raised by his immigrant parents—an artist in a family of scientists. Early in life through early adulthood, he secretly struggled with an undiagnosed learning disability, leading him to doubt graduating from high school or gaining employment and would become homeless. Despite all this, he graduated from the Tyler School of Art, moved to New York City, held senior executive positions as an advertising creative director, was president of a photography trade organization, and had a photography business. Seeking a life change, he moved to Seattle and became a financial advisor and an active angel investor, mentoring and funding startups in the venture world. Discovering his dyslexia a few years ago inspired Roy to pursue writing, drawing upon his experiences as part of the Asian, LGBT, and disability communities and obtaining success while struggling with self-doubt to tell socially conscious stories of self-acceptance, identity, and the intersectionality of visible and invisible diverse groups.
