Hey Tony, style will depend on the story your wish to tell and the mood you wish to invoke. I would suggest you research projects that have been completed similar the tone and story you are wishing to produce.
Budget plays a role in the style. But I agree, start with finding a show you have seen that would fit your story. There’s lots of styles... cartooney, high end 3D, mid level 3D, mocap, graphic, 3D, 2D, stop motion clay, live action with 3D chars, fully animated, stylized..
