Your Stage : Juking the Joint by Wyman Brent

Wyman Brent

Juking the Joint

Some songs feel like they come from someplace deep in the soul. Kissed Your Color, The Color of Tears, and now Juking the Joint all carry that weight for me. Each one was sparked by a single image or memory — and then the music poured out.

This time, I thought back to when I was with an African-American lady I cared deeply for. We were at Disneyland in Anaheim, music was in the air, and I started dancing around. She laughed and told me I “danced pretty well for a white boy.” We both laughed together, and in that moment there was nothing but freedom, love, and joy. No judgment. No barriers. Just us.

That spirit is what Juking the Joint is all about — a place where love and music tear down the walls, where people can be free in the color of their skin, and where one and one truly makes two.

I’ll keep writing songs as long as I have breath, and I’ll keep rejecting prejudice with every note.
