The Writer’s Fire: Why We Create

We write because the world whispers stories, and we can’t help but listen. It’s a compulsion, a quiet ache to pour our hearts onto the page, to craft something that outlives us. As writers, we’re driven by the need to preserve what matters—the swashbuckling thrill of a hero’s tale, the suave grit of a spy’s glance, the fleeting truths of our own lives.

When I think of stories like James Bond or Star Wars, I see what happens when creation strays from its soul. Disney’s Star Wars surge—bless their heart—felt like a race to recoup billions, not a love letter to fans craving mythic cinema. Now, with Amazon MGM steering Bond, I’m praying they don’t drown 007’s elegance in a sea of spin-offs. We create to honor, not to exploit.

Writing is our rebellion against that. It’s our chance to build worlds that stay true, to weave tales that pulse with life, not profit. We write to capture the spark of a martini shaken not stirred, the clash of a lightsaber, or the quiet of a truth only we can tell. So, pick up your pen. Create fiercely. The world needs your story—raw, real, and unapologetic.

Remember, the difference between ordinary and EXTRAordinary... is that lil' word "EXTRA."  Don't be afraid to tell the story you really care about.  The one that is most personal to you.

Cheers... and I hope you give your story the lil' extra it deserves.
