I'm on my 4th Joe Ambercrombie novel - Best Served Cold. Rebecca Ferguson was attached to the movie version of this book for quite some time (which is why I picture her as the lead character) but I believe that project is currently in development hell.
Ambercrombie does something really well in his novels - his third person prose shifts depending on the lead character for any given chapter. It's not just the dialog that is different, but the entire way the story is told depending on who's telling that portion of it. And not in a distracting way. It's subtle so it adds to the narrative flow rather than disrupting it.
George RR Martin takes a more omniscient narrator approach even as his character perspectives shift. I find what Ambercrombie does to be more difficult and nuanced. Reading his work makes me a better writer.
