In the meantime.... I wrote a post a little while ago about targeting or developing a style. Well that's what I've been up to since, developing a style or rather starting to. Having spent years focusing on playing guitar and bass I have rediscovered a love for the first instrument I learnt to play, the piano. And I can't stop writing!!!! I felt it was important to me to try and forge a style so I have a product to sell to film makers/music supervisors so I have written 3 EP's. Two are finished and one is in the mixing stage but I have released the first 2 on bandcamp. If you find yourself at a loose end then please click on the link and have a listen. And if there is anyone out there who would like something in a similar vein for their film then let me know! Cheers http://adamdmaxfield.bandcamp.com/album/felt
I am not an admin but I did notice this post stuck around for a bit last week and then disappeared. I was assuming it was moved since it was predominantly considered 'self promotion'. So here is an idea.... why don't you talk about what exactly constitutes a style or even your style and how your music defines that. Do you rely on certain genres? Do you work with one particular/set of synthesized sounds or instruments? Do you like to stay diatonic, do lean towards chromaticism, do you modulate, do prefer certain tempos or time signatures? And those are just some example of things that make your music standout and be recognized. How do you feel about creating a hook in your sound and what form does it take?
What I think people want to know about in this forum is more about what goes on behind the scenes - how exactly do you go through the process of composing and/or arranging or perhaps something about what processes you go through to market your music. I assume that anyone that wants to hear my music can always go to my profile here to follow my various posts announcing and promoting my music. The only time I mention my music at all in this forum is in support of some point or idea I am trying to convey. In that context my music is not the topic of the posts, in my opinion it is only incidental to the topic.
Funny, I thought the whole point of this site was self promotion through networking and advertising projects! But hey if you think it's in the wrong forum then who am I to argue.
not my call. im not the admin. just trying to come up with some ideas to minimize having the post/discussion moved based on what I have seen here over the last few years. Sharing the 'how' and the 'behind the scenes' is greatly valued here.
