Documentary “Koçer” | Exploring the resilience of nomadic Kurdish families

Hi everyone,

I’m Serhat Boylu — filmmaker based in Turkey. I recently completed my short documentary “Koçer”, which focuses on the life of Kurdish nomadic families who migrate with their flocks across rural Anatolia.

The film explores:

• their deep bond with nature

• their struggle to maintain ancient traditions

• the challenges of modern life

• resilience, identity and belonging

I would love feedback, insights or collaboration from other documentary directors and cinematographers in this community.

Anyone interested in distribution, festivals, or cultural anthropology-related cinema — I’d be happy to connect.

Thank you!

Maurice Vaughan

Hi Serhat Boylu, Your project sounds truly meaningful. I have deep respect for filmmakers who capture disappearing traditions and give voice to communities that rarely get represented on screen. “Koçer” looks like the kind of documentary that preserves something fragile and important.

I’m a writer and cinematographer working on several character-driven projects myself, so I really appreciate your focus on resilience, cultural identity and the tension between tradition and modern life. If you ever need an outside perspective, a creative exchange, or simply someone to look at early cuts and give honest feedback, I’d be glad to connect.

Wishing you success with festivals and distribution. Stories like this deserve a wide audience.
