Future skills and giving life

What a great opportunity to meet some amazingly creative people! Having always been passionate about movies, performance, acting and telling stories I have decided to make my dream of directing a reality. First step: director's course at film school. This shouldn't be too hard as I run my own graphic design and advertising business with a network of outsourced people so basically I manage my own time. At heart I am a frustrated director actor who is telling stories on demand through advertising and design in the form of 'required' information. Oh to be free to express without expectations! Being based in South Africa, Cape Town specifically, I would probably have to attend a local school in Cape Town part-time. Does anyone know of a good film school here? The only film school that comes to mind for me is Afda in Johannesburg. I have done some amateur acting at school and in 2 local independent films and 2 TV ads and absolutely love performing. I terms of dirceting, I have conceptualised, scripted and directed the shooting of 2 TV ads. But I just love performance, in front of or behind the camera, being in that moment, accessing buried emotions and living in the character's experience. It's almost like existing in 2 places at once. There are stories that must be told. And heard and seen. I would love them into life. I would love to act and direct. Even if it's just telling the stories I need to tell. Low budget or no budget. Looking forward to hearing from other passionate people. :)

Afda In Observatory is good, but Cape Town Film School is tops right now, with amazing talented students. :) Hope u found your niche already. You sound multi-talented. :)

Thanks for the advice Kimite! I am excited about getting a step closer to realising my dream of making a film. Your profile is impressive and inspiring and i love that you said: ' Im aiming to achieve all my dreams.' I believe that is what we are here for. But only some of us have the child-like curiosity and the dogged determination to believe our dreams into reality. I would love to see some of your work. A very good friend and my acted in one of the 48 hour films last year - maybe you met each other - his name is George and he has a shaved head. He is in fact currently in Cape Town (he lives in London) to shoot a film he wrote and will be directing. I have also finally decided on a theme I want to tackle for my own script, which does make for a lot of focus and excitement. I look forward to seeing and hearing more of and from you. Gerald

Hi Gerald. I may remember seeing George at the festival, but only on the first day when we all got our genres. I wasnt able to go to the other sets (I was in A group) and he may have been in the winning teams. I was quite amateur up against so many professionals, but I still like my movie I made, and enjoyed the experience it gave me trying my best. Since then, Ive now aced how to render a movie, which was unknown to me back then, and which caused my film to be an hour late, and Ive learnt how to edit better and quicker. Ive also started a youth film club in Milnerton, with over 25 members and growing, and we film in under 3hours. I can edit everything in under 48 hours now, so I think Ive succeeded in mastering the time frame needed for competitions. My club is called Cinematic kids sa and we make short films. (https://www.facebook.com/CkidSA?ref=hl) Im a published author, and love writing new stories. Ive written 2 stories, which I want to make into feature films. I would love to shadow a director behind the scenes, so that I can learn some invaluable insights and experiences. Do you think I could shadow you or someone you knew? Im on school break from the end of June, for 3 weeks, and only ask for a day or two. Most of the work Im busy with with the club, is unpaid, out of my own pocket, and it would be nice to have a mentor who could steer my career in the right direction. My heart and passion lies with film making, and I enjoy every minute behind a camera, directing actors in different scenes. Im a different person then, full of drive and with lots of hindsight on what I want from a production. I guess I can relate to your own passions. Id love to also see the kind of work you do. Thanks for getting back to me.
