I recently sat down with Anthony Tombling Jr - a filmmaker and composer who co-runs the independent production outfit Unit 3 Films. With over a decade of professional experience in film and music, and a creative journey spanning nearly two decades, Anthony brings a wealth of insight across long- and short-form documentaries, narrative projects, music videos and content creation. Under his music project CUTS, his work bridges visual storytelling, atmospheric sound design and film scoring. His music has featured in Alex Garland’s film Ex Machina, and he’s collaborated with artists such as Massive Attack, creating visuals. In our conversation, we explore his early days and long creative journey - from the realities of freelancing to his approach to film scoring, his distinctive style, and what he has coming up next.

Must-watch interview, Steve Conway! One thing Anthony said that stood out was a lot of directors weren’t asking him to score their films and he was a little frustrated, so he started making his own movies. I can relate. It gets frustrating sometimes pitching spec scripts. Pitching scripts is still my focus, but I’ve been thinking about turning some of my scripts and script ideas into audio dramas and graphic novels. Thanks for sharing the interview!
