Filmmaking / Directing : Making a Lookbook by Maurice Vaughan

Making a Lookbook

What are some tips for making a lookbook? And what have you used a lookbook for (used it to help pitch a project to investors, figured out the look of your film, etc.)?

Billy Kwack

Hi Maurice, whats a lookbook?

Maurice Vaughan

Hi, Billy Kwack. A lookbook is a document of movie stills, photographs, pictures, etc. for a movie. I've heard about lookbooks and seen some, but I don't know a lot about them.

David Horton

Maurice Vaughan Would this be a part of your pitch deck? Setting the mood, showing images of characters, settings, etc?

Billy Kwack

Hi Maurice, cool

Maurice Vaughan

Hi, David Horton. It would be a separate document setting the mood, showing images of characters, settings, etc. I've seen it both ways though. Lookbooks that were separate from pitch decks and mini lookbooks/mood boards in pitch decks.

Hi Maurice Vaughan, that’s a good question. I never did a lookbook for my filmmaking career, until now I didn’t feel the need to do it, but probably will do in the future. I did a lot of lookbooks for my brand in the fashion industry, because it works the same as Pitch Deck in the filmmaking industry. I go to dig about that. Thanks for reminding us about it!

Maurice Vaughan

Hi, Sandra Isabel Correia. You're welcome. Thanks for the info.

David Horton

Maurice Vaughan Thank you for the clarification. I'm going to look into this.

You're welcome, David Horton.
