I get the script from the director, read the pages and break down the scenes that will need to be storyboarded. Here is one example. An interior medium shot. Words on a page, a description of the scene. I visualize the scene in my head and start drawing it out on the board. Think angle shot, think framing/composition. It gives the film director an idea as how to shoot the scene later with the cinematographer. Always focus on the words of the script and think visual. And watch plenty of movies to study filmmakers’ visual styles and how shots transition from frame to frame. Have a great weekend, everyone! All the best.

How many storyboard pages do you usually make for a movie, Rich Terdoslavich?

Hi, Maurice. It depends on how many pages in the script. I read the script and I write down notes or numbers next to each scene of the script to get a total of how many scenes I will have to illustrate. Sometimes, I will draw rough thumbnails next to the dialogue or a description of the scene, so I can have an idea of what to draw later.
