I am Wellington, New Zealand based filmmaker. I have been a member of Stage 32 for some time, but I continually struggle with my ambivalence about spending time on social networking rather than getting on with the job of making films. But as I am realising, the two are becoming increasingly interconnected, distribution in particular, ie. finding your audience. It's not all hobbits and dragons in Wellington. I am among a group of filmmakers who are telling contemporary, character-based stories with great roles for women. All our films pass the Bechdel test with flying colours! Our latest feature, HOOK, LINE & SINKER is currently screening (for free) in the viewster on-line festival - http://www.viewster.com/festival-details/1251-17126-000 - the 10 finalists being judged by the fantastic Ted Hope, indie producer and visionary. I'd love you to vote for HOOK, LINE & SINKER. Every film is also an insight into its maker. What better introduction?!
Hope you enjoyed it, Deva.

I make films and have done so for many years and I want them seen. With the conventional distribution structures collapsing, it is important to explore other avenues including engaging directly with our audiences – which is what this viewster festival is about. As part of Torchlight Films, we continue to self-distribute our films theatrically as well – there is a growing movement of theatrical self-distribution in New Zealand – as we cut out the middlemen ticket clippers and maximise returns back to the makers. Actually, in my view, believing in ones work is expressed in the confidence and ability to say, take a look at our film. You might just like it.
