I want to look into on deman screens. Has anyone ever tried this strategy for distribution? How well has it worked out for you? What are the keys to success and the keys to failure?
Here is an example of an on demand screen service. https://www.cineminifilmclub.com/ourscreen

Kevin Jackson I looked at the website and it's a mess. I can't make head nor tail of what it is, what you do with it, why anyone should care, or how to relates to distribution. Can you explain any of that?

Looks like a service that represents a library of films and offers to arrange a four walled screening for a fee. Might appeal to normal people looking for an alternative get-together with friends.
What people might not realize is you can pretty much do this with a little leg-work just by calling your local theater without the middle-man.

Unfortunately Mike Boas where I am from it's very difficult to achieve this by just doing leg work. The owner of the monopoly cinema chain here is very averse to screening indie films. Not sure what he encountered in the past, but getting a meeting with the owner or his team is almost impossible unless you know someone well connected to him.

That’s too bad. Where I live there are 4 chains and two independent theaters! Three if you count the George Eastman Museum. Most are available to four-wall, although some are very expensive.
For those looking to run screenings of their own, you can also look into non-traditional spaces like college or museum auditoriums.

I wish I was in Atlanta. I know they have quite a few independent cinemas that are open to this.

Do you have a film ready to screen?

It’s like a four wall release which is very common for indie filmmakers to get theatrical. Depending on how you negotiate box office you’ll have to make sure you can draw up a large enough crowd to attend - the P&A is in your hands for a four wall - but it’s a great way for your film to get theatrical.

This is basically renting a cinema for a community screening. It works best if you already have a built-in audience (schools, fan clubs, local orgs) who will actually buy tickets. Without that, it's easy to lose money. Do you have a specific community or location in mind that you think would show up for your film?
