Financing / Crowdfunding : Crowdfundr Vs. Kickstarter Vs. Indiegogo by Ben Rood

Crowdfundr Vs. Kickstarter Vs. Indiegogo

Does anyone have experience or insight on Crowdfundr? We're gearing up to crowdfund, sorry, crowdSOURCE a six figure project in the fall and would like to use a platform geared towards filmmakers. But not sure if it quite has the clout yet seeing as it's so new.

I personally prefer https://www.startengine.com/ It allows you to sell microshares of your company.

Ben Rood

I like start engine, but we're partnering with a non-profit that helps first responders with mental health. And I don't see that being as flashy to shareholders

Amanda Toney

Hi Ben Rood - i’m not familiar with that platform. So keep in mind when you are picking a crowd funding platform that if there are less eyeballs on it to begin with it’s going to be even harder to try and raise six figures. If you haven’t read our founder and CEO‘s book “Crowdsourcing for filmmakers”, I highly recommend you read it before you ever start with your crowdfunding campaign. He interviewed hundreds of filmmakers over the period of two years, and has best practices to be able to launch a successful crowdfunding campaign. It has over 100 5 star reviews.

A plug for RB's book, shocker! Haha, thanks, Amanda Toney. I own it, I've read it and I enjoyed it. His encouragement towards passionate fans before dollars, seeing as fans will be your driving force in the indie world is very refreshing. Crowdsourcing over Crowdfunding. We're making a movie for firefighters, much in credit to RB's and Alex Ferrari's books.

As far as the platforms go, there's a ton more people on Kickstarter, sure. But the pre-launch page on Indiegogo is just so. much. better. It's like Goliath against David without a slingshot. Kickstarter has a better track record for projects, but they don't let you include a video on your pre-launch page. And we shot a proof of concept film, and it's good. So we're going with Indiegogo to show it off and drive traffic for 3 months before we launch.

Richard "RB" Botto

Honored, Ben Rood. Appreciate the good words and hopeful the info and guidance is assisting in your firefighter film. It seems like a project that's a perfect fit for crowdsourcing.

If you've left a review already on Amazon, thank you. If you haven't, I would love if you would take a couple of minutes to do so! Cheers, and have a fantastic Sunday.
