I have thought about creating my own website just for a movie with funnels and perks to cut out the middleman overheads. At the end of the day, people have to trust you and your capabilities to bring your project to life. Using third party platforms really eats into the amount raised and physical perks are extremely time consuming to fulfill.
So, have you discovered a master key? One that opens the door to funding and also gives backers satisfaction with their perks etc?
Richard Gemmell-Thrift Interesting question. From what I’ve seen, there isn’t really a single “master key” to funding. Trust and transparency seem to be the biggest factors. Many filmmakers combine approaches — building a small audience first, sharing the vision clearly, and then using a mix of private investors, crowdfunding, and partnerships.
Having your own website for the project can definitely help build credibility and control communication with supporters, while platforms like Kickstarter or Indiegogo can still help with visibility and trust because people are already familiar with them.
I also think offering meaningful experiences instead of too many physical perks (like behind-the-scenes access, credits, or early screenings) can save time while still making backers feel part of the journey.
Hi Richard,
While "middleman" isn't always bad thing, I am sorry to say this, but funding is all about "ROI" or the dream of getting it.
Presenting yourself as a builder or your movie as a great venture requires that you have armed your self with market research, understand the genre, audience, and can continuously entice the audience to more engagement.
I have seen this with many clients of Script.Movie
Let's see if there is a collaboration opportunity
Thanks
