A day in an Actors shoes by Pj former New Jersey State Trooper

The phone rings from an known number, your Agent. Hi PJ , good news your on Avail on April 28th, 29th, and the 30th...are theses dates good for you? Ok, good keep your fingers crossed. I feel good and stop and have Blueberry pancakes at Norms. A few hours later... unknown number. You answer it. Hello, this is Somebody Casting Agency (you hear in your ear as the phone is breaking up) we are releasing you from the avail. My response is thank you for your time and consideration. Ah the life of a actor....I think about the time spent looking to put together a outfit for the role, Going downtown to get a few mask choices, investing in myself for a few wardrobe pieces and whether they are reusable prop items to wear to future auditions, the hours spent in heavy Cali traffic for the initial casting and the callback, the gas and wear and tear on your car and grateful you didn't get a ticket when you came out and saw the meter had expired. Yes grateful for the time and consideration because you came that close to booking another job in a industry that has hundreds of thousands of actors all doing the same thing you are doing, This callback had five others they thought were also perfect for the role and one was a real former MEXICAN WRESTLER/Lucha Libre who was taking pictures in the casting room with the casting director that you realize its a tough business and you better count your blessing when you are given any opportunities because the competition is real and waiting room full of guys that are just as hungry for this as you. I always feel the tension of the waiting room and thank god I have my pension to pay my rent and bills and not have to worry about pawning a guitar to have gas money or flipping a burger in between auditions. So when someone asks you what have you done and who have you met that is a big star you silently shake your head at them because if you were in my acting class you would see talented actors all struggling to get a Agent, a manager, and just a small role after hours and years for some of them very well trained. They inspire me and I love what I do. It is the largest lonely city I have ever been it with everyone having their walls up. But I am determined and happy to be here to be in the hunt of a role, a callback, an avail. To be onset rather than in front of a TV set is what my Agent always tells me is a great day. Thank you for reading, thank you for following,,,,Cut!
