I’m Brian, an actor and a bit of a tech tinkerer. I’ve spent years on stage and in front of the camera, and one constant challenge has always been learning lines efficiently, especially when you don’t have a scene partner handy.
A few years back, I started thinking: “What if the phone in my pocket could be my perfect rehearsal partner?” That idea turned into MyLine, a mobile app designed to help actors:
- Import scripts directly from email, Google Drive, or other apps
- Automatically create unique voices for each character
- Record your own audio for lines (or invite friends to record from their own devices)
- Rehearse on the go, with customizable playback and timing
Right now, I’m working with a designer on a full UI/UX refresh — but I’m also looking to connect with actors, directors, and producers here to learn what rehearsal tools would actually make your life easier.
If you’ve ever wished for a more flexible way to run lines, I’d love to hear your thoughts, frustrations, or must-have features. And if you’re curious to test the app in its current beta form, just DM me and I’ll share access.
Looking forward to meeting more of you here on Stage 32 — and hearing your stories about how you prep for roles.

Hey Maurice, Cool, yeah I've just found the platfrom so I'll check out what it has to offer. If you're interested in checking out MyLine, it's already available on the app stores (apple and android). I'm not charging for it yet so it's free to try it out!

Hi Brian Caspe
I’m really glad to hear from you, and it’s very clever to use technology for artistic work, especially when there’s a fully human control over the technological tools. What you’ve done is truly commendable. I’m not sure if there are web platforms or apps that also let you create storyboards, because I have a complete film and I want to focus on camera movement, focus, scene staging, and the physicality of the characters.

I don't know about storyboarding apps. I came across something called https://scriptation.com/ which may have that kind of functionality.... otherwise you could probably use something like miro.com or some other whiteboarding app to do some basic sharing. I'm sure there is something out there for storyboarding!
Thanks, Brian Caspe. I just downloaded MyLine. Looking forward to trying it out on a script!

This is such a smart idea, Brian. I can see MyLine being a game-changer for actors running lines solo or on the go. I’d love to hear more about how you developed it and what kind of feedback you’ve gotten so far from other actors.

Hi Jennifer Ford ! Thanks for the comment. I really find it useful as the solution I was using before to run lines was not great (especially as I have an android phone). The development was and is a slow process punctured by magical moments (like when I got the app to listen to what I was saying and only move on to the next line when I had said my line). As I'm a solo developer, my favorite thing is to add features. Which is good, but also fraught because the interface can be confusing and hard to maintain. The biggest issues now are reliability and making the app more intuitive.
I just got an incubation grant which I am going to be using to redo the UI as well as hire a developer to help with the reliability issues, so that's very exciting and a bit scary. Once I have it in a good state I can actually start charging money for the "Pro" features.
The feedback is mostly positive from the people who are using it regularly. Users have gotten frustrated with not being able to find things or things not working as they would expect. But generally the feedback is quite positive!
If you download it, let me know what you think! It's very much in active development!
