Introducing Ann-Frances

Hello Everyone. I have been a Stage32 Member for a year and this is my first post to the lounge. I have been dealing w/ loss and grief so engaging has not been a priority. Im getting back into the swing of things and wanted to know: What are some things you do to lift your spirits especially when you feel like saying Forget this Sh*t! I welcome all replies! Thanks.

CJ Walley

Firstly, sorry to hear about your loss, Ann. I'm pleased to read you are getting back into things now. I get in that place regularly in my head, pretty much every evening after an exhausting day. There's four things I do: 1) I ask myself if I really can forget this sh*t. And I accept that actually I can't. Even if I try to walk away, I can't leave it alone. Its not really an option. 2) I remind that I'm working and progressing all the time. Even those times I'm lying on the bed fed-up, exhausted, sick from overwork, and feeling like the universe has it in for me, is part of the process of finding one's self and learning to deal with one's passion. You have to keep climbing the mountain, even if that means taking a rest, even if it means just working out your path, even if it means only being able to make one tiny step. 3) I keep the faith. I'm not a religious or spiritual person myself but I do believe in the logic of personal development, effort and reward, and karma. Sometimes you just have to believe in a positive future, it helps you keep the mindset that should lead you to one. 4) I catalogue my achievements. It's hard to pull yourself up from a negative place. It's scientifically proven we really struggle to feel positive after feeling negative. This industry can feel like nothing but negatives sometimes. So I have a list of achievements I keep updated. They don't have to be significant, they just have to be positive steps forward. You can keep looking back at something like that just to remind you of your journey. As I am a writer, I keep lots of positive snippets from reviews, just to hammer home that there are people out there I have engaged with. I hope that helps a little :)

I run. I run, then i run more. Literally, running away and leaving all the crap behind for a couple hours.

Music, that lifts me up. I have a list of motivational songs on my iPhone that I listen to in low times. I update it every once in a while. If I don't like a song anymore I toss it out of that list and add new ones sometimes, that I like. Also success stories/movies, if it's during a day, that I have a little more time. And last but not least, I set a goal and then I tell all my friends, so I won't quit. Accountability! You don't want to look like a quitter in front of your friends. :)

For me, it helps talking to people, making new friends and surrounding yourself with old friends and relatives. I know everyone's different, but it always feels good to open up.

Forget this sh*t only works if you have some place to go, somewhere inside yourself. I recommend meditation, preferably transcendental, where balance is restored in the inner world and can then be applied to the outer.

Thank you for the warm comments CJ. I know its been over a year since you posted, but I have done exactly what you have written. You are right you have to keep climbing and that is what I keep telling myself. I also started meditating as we'll which has brought a lot of clarity. Positivity is the name of the game. Keep sharing your light, its much appreciated!

CJ Walley

Delighted to read it! Keep climbing :)
