Hi everyone—James here.
I’m a screenwriter returning to the craft after a long hiatus. Years ago, I lived in Hollywood, had representation, joined the WGA through the Independent Writers Caucus, and produced multiple short films that screened at festivals. I tried to build a career in this field, but when the door didn’t open, I stepped away. I moved to Coronado, California to clear my head and live a quieter life. That time away gave me perspective, maturity, and a deeper understanding of the stories I want to tell.
Now I’m back with a small, tightly focused slate: four feature screenplays that span psychological thriller, dark comedy-horror, and animated fantasy adventure. Each story lives in its own world, but they all explore the same human territory—boys and men pushed to their limits, navigating volatile inner terrain, searching for something they can hold onto: self-worth, connection, or the courage to change.
These stories are emotionally grounded and character-driven, but they’re not quiet—they’re bold, intense, sometimes dark, and always reaching for something universal.
I’ve just begun submitting these scripts to competitions, and the early response has been encouraging—multiple semifinalist and finalist placements so far. And just today, I found out my short script "Let Us Prey" is a Finalist in the 2025 HollyShorts Screenwriting Competition. So I'm energized!!
My goal is simple: I want to get films made.
I’m here to be part of this community—to connect with filmmakers, producers, and fellow creatives who care about character, emotion, and meaning. If you’re working on something grounded, gutsy, or unexpected, I’d love to hear what you’re building.
Grateful to be here, and excited for what’s next.

Wow Douglas, you sure know your guitars! It is, in fact, the same color scheme that Adam Jones, guitarist of the band TOOL, plays. He is one of my favorite guitarists! It's not his signature Epiphone model, but a similar color for sure!!

James Tuverson I come from a rock/metal music background. worked with several huge tool fans in my day ;) I’ve seen them a few times live (though never close enough to see the guitar in great detail).

Wow, I woulda loved to see them live! Especially if they played their cover of “No Quarter” by Led Zeppelin, my all-time favorite band.

James Tuverson best time seeing Tool was in Akron, Ohio in 98…Maynard’s family was there and he said it was the first time they had seen Tool, so they played a few rare tracks off of Opiate.
closest I came to zeppelin live was page and plant 3 times in 98 (a good year for live music I guess).

Great journey - maybe that's the script to write? It could be any profession really or anything connected to writing. As a former Clinical Counsellor, I left the field of rehab counselling for writing. I appreciated my time in the 'field' but stories are my passion. Good luck in the competition!
