Introduce Yourself : Never too old.... by Joanne Malone

Never too old....

Hello everyone! Publicly doing this is completely out of character for me, as I am very much a "behind the scenes" sort of person. I'm most confident when I'm by myself creating a project, whether it be art, writing or music. However, I've decided to accept the challenge of introducing myself to the community at Stage 32 because I finally found a place where I can truly flourish, learn more and be a better version of the creator I've wanted to be since early childhood. In my mature years, I've realized that process can't be accomplished in a vacuum. I consider myself one of the "Golden Girls" of screenwriting, but my ideas have only improved with age and experience. I pray that my creative muscle will keep producing and carry on until they someday outlive my time here on earth. Thanks for accepting me and I look forward to discovering everything this site has to offer, while also making new friends and colleagues along the way.

I like your phrase, "never too old." I really take that to heart. My father was a silent film actor, born in the 1800's, and I am in this industry with a mission, a mission to make movies that matter, movies that are a movement, a movement for positive change.

Hi Eugene! Thanks for responding! Fact of life; you can always erase and rewrite dialogue, but the years just keep piling on. Grab the opportunity while we can. Cheers!!!

Hello Joanne. Nice to meet you. I can totally relate to your post. I don't like setting myself in the center of attention either (and convinced myself to take the "Introduce yourself weekend" challenge this month as well). I also hope that life experience gives me better foundations to become a good professional screenwriter now than if I had gone for it twenty years ago.

Joanne Malone Hi Joanne, how are you doing? It’s great to see you take that big step and introduce yourself to the community. Well done. I’m sure your gift will keep on inspiring you to write.

I balance the line between introvert and extrovert. I spent a few years reading posts in the Stage32 community, not thinking I had anything to add to anyone’s posts. Then I just started commenting, encouraging people and gradually offering my opinions, most about screenwriting in those days of the introvert. But then…

But then I realised that if I want these ‘personal’ projects to be made and flourish in the world out my living room, that I needed to do something about. I needed to take action and step out of what had become my comfort zone. (I’m now in my late 60s btw).

And so my interests have widened - Distribution, Post-Production and the business side of the film industry. Who’d have thought I get a buzz out of learning more about Distribution. All of this means I have to put on my extrovert loafers and walk out into the public domain. And you know what? It’s not a bad place to be, especially if you surround yourself with a sustaining network of like-minded creative people.

My network has come from Stage32 and it sustains me in the journey outside of my study, where I create all sorts of world, when feeling I couldn’t enter my own ‘real’ world. Things are changing for me and I’m happy blending my two lives together.

I wish you success with the worlds you create and well done for stepping out on the IYW.

Eugene, I have what you are looking for. A script so unique and ready to serve and initiate a movement. It's based on The Principle of Feminine Spiritual Primacy , which makes it a very difficult project to assess and produce. Virgin territory!

Hi Joanne Malone - How wonderful you are here. With age comes maturity, knowledge, and life experiences that cannot be duplicated anywhere else and helps us become even better writers. Welcome to outside-of-the-vacuum. Write on!

Hi, Joanne Malone. Congratulations on stepping out from "behind the scenes" and introducing yourself to the community! I'm glad you finally found a place where you can truly flourish!

Love that you stepped out of your comfort zone, Joanne Malone, and I'm hopeful that the response you're getting here inspires and motivates you to do so more often. I'll also add, that's one fantastic IY post. One of the best I've read this weekend! Thrilled to have you and your energy in the community.
