Ghostbusters Afterlife? What happened?

Hey Producers - so, my thoughts may be more geared towards a marketing lounge post?

I haven't seen the film yet and did not plan to see it in theaters. Though, I find it odd that there has been little promotion for it across socials and tv. Just curious if you saw any promotion for it? What was it, and did it have impact for you?

I have seen nothing at all on this except for this review, which is interesting:

Haven't seen much either but I think they're relying heavily on people's nostalgia (it's a well known IP for 80's kids). We don't watch TV as much these days. Any ads I've seen have been on YT. Going to see it tonight! If anything, the ads I saw, made me more curious to see what they did. I don't have high expectations BUT want to walk in with an open mind.

I don't think a studio could do that kind of limited marketing with any other IP. Having said that, I can't help but wonder if they (the studio) just wanted to push it out to get it out because of so many delays. There is a backlog of films that were not released because of the shut down. My 2¢. I'm not an expert.

Hyping is regular part of this business, I don't see nothing wrong with it, just I don't buy that s#$%...btw saw the film (for free, of course), nothing special, I think they've managed to reuse the car, through...

Here in the UK it's been promoted as usual, I've seen adverts for it on primetime TV and on the side of buses. It's had a very mixed reception here but despite that has done well at the box office. Perhaps they thought they could depend on American nostalgia instead of marketing, but didn't feel the UK had the same built-in affinity for the franchise?

Kumali Neptune

I've seen commercials for it here and there....normally isn't that a sign that the studio thinks it sucks?

Cherelynn Baker

Thanks for chiming in with your thoughts and experience. I do want to see this, though our conversation here confirms that I shall be watching it when free on one of my streamers. Any suggestions on what to watch next?

Joanna Karselis

Kumali Neptune maybe sometimes it's a sign the studio thinks it sucks, but not always. Awards contenders always seem to get a big promo push, for example Spencer had loads of bus/radio/tv adverts, and I've been hearing radio adverts for Tick, Tick...Boom! all week (which isn't even having a cinema release in the UK).

What kind of films are you into, Cherelynn? I re-watched The Favourite at the weekend and still really enjoyed it, if you haven't seen it. West Side Story looks great, plus there are a few indie films I'm excited for like Lamb and C'mon, C'mon. Depends on your taste really though!

Joanna Karselis I like action/adventure/sci fi and just may catch a little bit of The Expanse which is back on Amazon Prime. Thanks for sharing on this post!
