Producing : Large Budgets by Michael "Cap" Caputo

Michael "Cap" Caputo

Large Budgets

I hear about kickstarter often relative to indie productions. My project necessitates a budget of $100 million or so, I need producers, not fund raisers. Are there any heavy hitters around here? Cap

Sean Laguna

Hey Cap I wanna be in your movie!! :)

Mark Ratering

you need exec, producers when you get money you'll need a producer. just one!!

Mark Ratering

100 million in these times very very hard yes insane!

Norman Welthagen

Where their is a will Michael. I believe you can make this happen! Good luck.

Eric Raphael Harman

Read the log lines - Sorry, it won't happen, Big Production Companies are not making movies from your type of scripts now a days. Maybe TV or Web Series.

Michael "Cap" Caputo

Logline has different scene posted care to take a second look?

Michael "Cap" Caputo

I hear you John but the studios are constantly sending out isn't there something different out there" comments. also i went back and looked at the logline and made an alteration, putting up a different scene. Take a second look. Everyone believes in their script or they wouldn't be trying to sell it. In this instance everyone who reads it also becomes a believer. i didn't write this I collaborated on the adaptation after reading the novel for the third time.

I'm try to find North Koreans I just can't find any!!!

Mark Ratering

It's a very good idea. I started learning Chinese years ago didnt finish. The Chinese just bought theatre chain and distributors AME. China is wheres it's at but they are very hard to deal with them. I live with them here in the Philippines.

Mark Ratering

I have a good friend I will run this buy and see if we can get something going. Did you have any others that gave any interest? mark

Mark Ratering

Left some info on your wall.

Michael "Cap" Caputo

Well things progress... I am talking with directors and actors, looking for commitment to such a project. Lots of positive feedback mostly from people that do not "fit the bill" as actors. It surprises me how many female actresses like the idea and bemoan the fact that as a World War Two saga there is no female role.

Ira Altman

I'm in nearly the same situation (not quite) as you since I'm still in process of trying to find a producer/director to take on my screenplay as a major feature film. I don't even begin to know how to start. Of course, I think my screenplay would be a blockbuster. Anyone out there a producer/director who would be interested or know of one that I can come in contact with? Any help here will be greatly appreciated. The logline and synopsis is posted on this website.

Robert Smith Mfa

Cap, The $100 million budgets are in the hands of people who listen to the programs that I told you about earlier. Smitty

Michael "Cap" Caputo

He was undaunted. Figures he is good for almost 10% of it if he is happy with the concept and we had discussions about ways to dramatically reduce some of the hardware expense (German military equipment) which I had been concerned about. Overall it was an enlightening conversation. This is going to take a lot of time to get to filming though.

Mark Ratering

That really depends on the amount the screenwriter, producer, director, principal actors demand. A actors cost so much different then someone off the street. A good director you don't want to know. Producer just get a rat trap !!!!

Mark Ratering

Michael it took me 5 years from the time I bought the rights to my biggest film till it was released.

Simon Watt

Great work Michael, all things start with the idea, let it grow and people will invest.

Scott C. Brown

If you have an A-Lister attached, I can probably arrange funding for your project, as well as distribution. If you don't, than don't bother asking for that budget.

Michael "Cap" Caputo

Building a cast wish list and collecting commitments from SAG actors who want in. A few Co-starring roles are pre-cast pending directorial assessment and approval. We are on the on-ramp to the Green light highway.

Simon Watt

Don't forget the composer, and my hand is up, if you need anything then over it comes, samples etc. www.libertymusicdesign.com.au

Thanks, Cap!

Michael "Cap" Caputo

ah... you're welcome? did I do something?

Michael "Cap" Caputo

Things coming to the front burner in January...

Laura Tabor-Huerta

My advice-start lower.

Michael "Cap" Caputo

Thank you for your advice Laura. Not going to happen. You could not have shot Star-Wars on $2,000. The story and script decide the budgetary requirement. Not respecting that need places your film in the genre of "crap films that never made it to DVD." If your story requires $200,000 and you spend $200 it will also end up in the same dump bin. It also puts you in jeopardy of being labeled "Hack." Everyone thinks they wrote Gone With The Wind. Occasionally someone DOES. I am just lucky enough to be attached to a spectacular World War Two project. If it can the story can be told effectively for less I am all in. If the story is compromised by the budget it won't be shot at all.

Leon Reaper

thats where you are wrong michael, 100 million! even star wars the first one was 11,000,000.... is that for the A-list actors wages, costume designers, stunt men etc and 5 star hotels then? -___- if the story is good and in depth then surely it wont need to cost that much. I watched a good WW2 movie called ''the fallen'' BUDGET: $600,000

Leon Reaper

Or the australian Movie Kokoda, which was less than a million

Leon Reaper

unless your going to have flying submarines and laser rifles, i dont know where all this money is going to......someones hitting above their weight, -____- could be your downfall, especially if its your 1st or 2nd movie, even big budget movies flop.... its how you sell it more than anything

Leon Reaper

Me I'm no pro at filmmaking in the slightest but im aware of all the pros and cons of what you say, thats all and it is my opinion (which im entitled to)

Leon Reaper

The movie Platoon was 6million

Michael "Cap" Caputo

Platoon isn't at all what I am doing. Star Wars was 11 million 30 years ago. The Fallen isn't accurate, tells a tale for a moral rather than shows the reality of the moment. The film barely broke even, had a much smaller cast, and far less action and firepower on display, and it was was filmed 8 years ago. I cannot adjust the original post above but discussions with directors and others has me believing we can do it justice for near 55 million. I am waiting to hear about some special effects ideas that will diminish some of the hardware costs. The wardrobe and armory budget is just about staggering.

Leon Reaper

Ah i see

Leon Reaper

bats eyelids are you? pmsl haha

Michael "Cap" Caputo

Richard who are you speaking to? Me or Leon? In what way are you out of whose league?

Michael "Cap" Caputo

@ Richard... You feel you are out of who's league? In which way?

Shay McLean

I sincerely hope he meant that the other way around...I'm thinking he did...I'm HOPING he did.

Rachael Saltzman

Is this your first film? If so, this budget isn't going to happen.

Evan Marlowe

First, secure 10% of your budget. Then secure A-listers. Then go get the rest. Good luck. How much of this 100 mil is in the bank so far?

Michael "Cap" Caputo

I am continually amazed at those of you saying the budget is too high like the guy that says Star Wars was done on 11 million or whomever says that 100 million is extravagant. I point out that SpyKids3 was $40,000,000 back in 2004.

Rachael Saltzman

@Cap - Spy Kids3 was not a first film.

Alex Sarris

Wow, and I thought my 20-30 million feature was going to be tough going. 100 million good luck ??

Michael "Cap" Caputo

@Rachael No and it wasn't a great film, and it wasn't full of A-listers, and it did not require a ton of hardware, historically accurate uniforms, large scale sets or a plot. but STILL cost $39 Million. What's your point? Alex if the story is good, the dialog is good, there is interest from the right actors and Directors and $30 million is what it takes then it is what you need. The people that will sell out their stories for $20,000 and fear it is too much money will forever be sellouts.

Oscar Scherl

Hi Cap, Just noticed your blog, are you still looking for a real Producer (not a fund raiser) if so check out www.osscca.com or contact me on osscca@westnet.com.au , Cheers Oscar.
