What do you guys think are good examples of coming-of-age stories? I’m watching Mongolian Chop Squad right now, which excels because it doesn’t try to be anything other than itself. Great music and a ridiculous amount of sexual tension help, too.

The cast of The Outsiders is unreal. I've only seen the film once and read the book while at school. Good shout :-)

There are bunches - one of my favorites is Juno.
Oh and the Guardian - which I'm writing off & on as the spirit moves me.
Eighth Grade, Booksmart, Lady Bird, Boyhood, The Diary of a Teenage Girl, The Fault in our Stars, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Love Simon are all examples of recent "coming of age stories".
Going back to the 80's just about any John Hughes teen movie.

My top 3 are Juno, Boyz In The Hood, and God’s Own Country. All have a very different set of characters and themes, but hit all the right emotional tones.
Was God’s Own Country really coming-of-age? It seemed like he struggled more with selfishness and vulnerability than with growing up and finding himself.
