Discipline and focus

I have been writing stories since I was in the single digits. I get great joy from creating something out of nothing and about three yrs ago I decided to stop procrastinating and take myself seriously it has been quite a journey learning so much about writing and the industry I do feel I lack the focus and discipline to finally complete one of the scripts I've written which I like a lot what would you guys suggest? I'm all eyes and ears, Thanks for reading.

Being a writer means writing. Every day. On deadlines.

Stephen, you gotta write everyday, even if is only a page, you will find that the day will come when you will have written 10 pages and you lost all track of time. Time is what we want most, but what we use worst. I speak by experience. Good luck, bro.

I do not quite understand the problem about lack of focus and discipline. You want to write or you don't. Sticking in a story and having problems to continue is something totally different, but if you already had ideas and "created something" (what ever that means) why don't you then simply sit down and write? You can and will learn writing only by doing. Do you have too high expectations? Forget them, this is what we all have and we all came back down to reality. Just write without judging. You will have to rewrite your story anyway.

I'm just judging by your profile pic, but you seem like a young person. My advice to young people interested in writing and the arts is always the same: get out there and have adventures! Do things that are daring and inspiring. One of the great clichés of writing is "write what you know." While you are young, get out there and push the boundaries of what you know every day. As you get older, the practice at writing will add up by itself, but the experience of being young and excited in the world is a one time deal. Take advantage of it! Then you will have the fire to fill page after page after page as you get older.

You have to insill the discipline in yourself. If you need to treat it like work then commit to writing time everyday. You would never want to be late for work, would you? Fill your brain files with life experiences. Stories that grow naturally that can lead to something on a page. They always say "write what you know" so just sit down and start writing something. You will find a story will flow the more you recall and get into it. It takes time but write everyday. Learn the craft. Have fun learning and getting what you want on paper or computer completed. New runners procrastinate when they have to work out. They push it off until tomorrow. You just push off the inevitable. Then the only question you ask yourself is "why didn't I do this sooner?" I used to push things off too until I realized the hard work and time you take now will all pay off later NIKE: JUST DO IT
