It is going to be more like 300+ Million loss! Do you really believe that Bob did or does have an agenda? Most would say yes and now they are back peddling this agenda and everyone can see it plain as day! Under Bob´s leadership Disney has suffered billions in losses not just with their films, the in the Stock Market. Could Disney get bouth out? AND... This is why you need to keep your politics and agenda to yourselves as the Old Guard did, and I think they are learning this the hard way, or not? Thoughts?
ALSO...
Did you know that Disney also Bought the majority rights to Star Trek this week? Bob is making his moves, but I really believe he sees the writing on the wall and making that shift before their titanic sinks.
What does this mean for us WRITERS? Well, Disney is out of creativity, they fired all of those who had it and replaced them with those who have none. So, we can start pitching to these Show Runners and see if you get any bites.
The Walt Disney Company (DIS), under the leadership of CEO Bob Iger, is currently navigating a series of significant challenges that span financial performance, creative output, and regulatory scrutiny.
Disney’s recent live-action adaptation of Snow White has faced a lackluster reception at the box office. The film debuted with $43 million domestically and $87.3 million globally, falling short of expectations. By its second weekend, earnings declined by 66%, with a domestic total of $66.9 million and a worldwide gross of $142.8 million. Given the film’s substantial production budget, reports indicate that it would need to gross approximately $500 million to break even. (Some estimate that Disney needs to make 1 Billion to break even!)
Regulatory Scrutiny and Bob Iger’s Leadership
In addition to creative and financial hurdles, Disney is under investigation by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regarding its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr announced the probe to assess whether Disney and its subsidiary ABC’s DEI practices comply with equal employment opportunity regulations. Carr expressed concerns that these initiatives might lead to discriminatory practices.
Amid these challenges, Bob Iger has reiterated Disney’s commitment to focusing on entertainment rather than advancing political agendas. During Disney’s annual shareholder meeting in April 2024, Iger emphasized that the company’s primary mission is to entertain and have a positive impact on the world without being agenda-driven. He acknowledged the company’s responsibility to do good but clarified that it should not be at the expense of its entertainment focus.

The tropes of this victimhood genre are so toxic that they pull you out of the story, never to find back. These agenda films need their own genre, so people are warned that they're unwatchable.

Well Said!! Wal Friman and that is a great idea to have an Agenda Genre in film, so folks can run away or stay. I think that Bob´s days are numbered as is Hollywood´s which is a sinking Titanic... Why Indies are taking over. Cheers!

The irony of the film that literally funded the Walt Disney Studios and launched their juggernaut licensing machine back in 1938 ($2 million of handkerchiefs alone!). Marketing has been the tail that wags Disney's dog for decades, long before Iger took over. And honestly, in his first tenure he was stellar. But the industry has changed dramatically. And IP no longer means bank. This film aside, Bob is the "old guard." The political finger pointing is gaslighting and not at all what is wrong with their content.
As for this film, I have not seen it but have heard from many that it's actually pretty good if you go in with an open mind. They just let costs get out of hand as they always do. Disney's costs always include years of development instead of starting with a good script. Almost every one of their films could be $100 million less if they purchased scripts that were already developed properly.

A famous play actor said (Gerard Moses) "don't preach when you write...unless you're a preacher'. He knows all of Shakespeare by heart.
Well said Laurie Ashbourne and the Old Guard needs to be replaced with those who love Disney. Seems like DISNEY HATES DISNEY! And they keep creating films NO ONE WANTS, but them. And all who I watch HATE the new Snow White Movie, and it was remade so many times, with so many holes in the film that it will give you whiplash.
Exactly Jon Shallit and you can see the new film A Working Man was amazing with no hidden agenda other than stopping human trafficking in the film. I saw it last night and it was great!

The object of films is to entertain. Any deviation from that leads to trouble.

Are we starting to see the cracks in the Disney Dam?

The cracks have been there since they hired Jen. Lee to run animation, (and in some cases earlier than that), but they have "let her go" from that position which she was not qualified for. They've adjusted in Marvel and Star Wars too. They also had a successful presentation at Cinema Con this week So I think they are actually testing the repairs in the dam. The real test will come when Iger finally leaves.
Totally agree with you Laurie Ashbourne Jen is the ultimate downfall of Disney and all of its Billion dollars IPs! Same with Jen Salke who just got Fired from MGM after destroying their brands as well...

I love film. I love art for the sake of art. I believe if you look for something, you will find it, whether it's intentional or not. I remember an argument about Disney and subliminal messaging. About hiding weird things in their creations that were meant to somehow taint the minds of young children. Although growing up, I never saw that. I just saw magic. I wasn't focused on that. I was focused on the story. I am so thankful I still have that. when I look at a movie, I look at the story. I don't feel preached to. I haven't seen Snow White. I have seen Mufasa. I have seen Moana 2. I have seen almost every live action they have put out. I don't hate any of them. I love them. Because I still love the magic of movies, I don't pay attention to the other dross. What has changed is people's idea of what a story was meant to do. What has changed is the lack of imagination and the push to see everything as real. We have lost the sense of wonder from childhood and now perceive everything as having an agenda. That saddens me. There are still a few of us out there. Who loves a film because it's a story that transports us, whether into unknown worlds or to lands we once visited in our youth? A time when we didn't care who played Snow White or the Wicked Witch. We were just moved by the magic of the character and their goals up against opposition to a conclusion, whether it be beautiful or a nightmare.

What they can't match they want to destroy-everything good-beauty, truth, common sense, and right and wrong.

Well said Renae Richardson and sadly Disney has lost touch with their stories, characters, and their audience. Hopefully they can reverse course before it is too late.
Spot-On Jon Shallit Disney Hates Disney and now Hollywood Hates Hollywood.
