I'm about to finish just the first rough draft of a feature film idea I've been sitting on for 7 years.. It's a sci/fi family feature film remake "The Phantom Tollbooth". I just thought if I was going to go big, I might as well stick with a story I really like. A producer I know says everybody goes through the same thing. They think they're first idea is great, but it stinks. It's usually a few scripts down the road that works out for them. This one is almost like a practice run or something. I hope I can pick up steam, as I go along.
Do you own the rights to PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH?
No, I'm just doing this for fun and to learn the process. There is someone doing it for profit though on imdb.com.

Remember you are always getting better. My first script was great. Until I wrote my second script. Then I saw how thin my idea was. How it drifted and how it was never really going to make a great movie. You will develop the eye for a great story.

I remember I was in that same position 10 years ago. I sat on my first script and it took me 10 years to step out and make it a reality. Once I made the decision to make it come to life is when I started building steam. After I held my first casting call then it hit me. So don't let it gather more dust. Light a fire to it and you will be amazed what can happen.
