Formatting rules

Are there different formatting rules for the U.S. (e.g., Hollywood) and Canada? The reason I ask is I have a screenplay up on Talentville and the only reviewer I've had to far ripped me a new one on formatting. He's a highly successful gaffer in Canadian television and appears to be ranked among the elite on Talentville. But the feedback I got from the Fresh Voices competition on the same draft gave me a 9 on formatting. It raises the question of whether there are differences. It's confusing.

Thanks, Ben. Some of what he said makes sense, I guess, I was just confused because the contest reader and coverage from another pro rated the formatting high.. I presume in his work as gaffer he's seen a lot of scripts so I can use some of what he said as coming from expertise. As for his comments on the story, they're difficult to pay much attention to because he backs them up with innacurate presumptions. I would hope it wasn't retribution for the low scores I gave one of his scripts.

In my opinion there are slight differences all over the world with the little things in script writing. I can only hope you can take something from any review to progress. :) Hope to chat soon.

I'm currently using Final Draft and there are multiple templates and examples. There are even specific ones for Warner Brothers, BBC, French, Spanish, etc...

I use Movie Magic Screenwriter 6. Picked up a copy on EBay a few years back on the cheap and dabbled with it. Didn't really get serious about this until about 18 months ago. But now I see why Final Draft is considered king. Tailored templates for individual studios and production companies. Can you import back and forth between them and it adjusts the formatting accordingly?
