Does anyone know how I would produce a 10 minute short story for festivals? I am a newbie and have absolutely no idea what this would entail, how much it would cost, where I would start, etc. Any information you can provide from your experience would be greatly appreciated. Also, please let me know how you could help in its production. Thanks.

"Hey Georgette! Congrats on taking the plunge into filmmaking! IM DEF NOT NO EXPERT lol but i would Start with a solid script and keep it tight. Budget-wise, short films can range from a few hundred to several thousand dollars depending on location, equipment, and crew. Save money by using free locations and borrowing equipment. Plan everything before you shoot, including casting and scheduling. Gather a small but dedicated crew, and remember that you don’t need the latest tech—good lighting and sound are key. Edit with user-friendly software like iMovie or DaVinci Resolve. Research festivals on sites... FilmFreeway is pretty cool ( : i am pretty sure some members on here as well no of a lot of places you can submit your work to as well good luck !!!

Hi, Georgette Skolnick. I'm a Stage 32 Lounge Moderator. I wanted to let you know that I moved your post from the Screenwriting Lounge to the Producing Lounge since your post is about producing. Let me know if you have any questions. Hope your short film does great in the festivals!

Work on someone else's short movies first, gain real life on-set experience by getting your hands dirty, make contacts and maybe use the same crew & cast for your own short

Thank you to everyone. It looks like this is something over my head. I prefer to hire someone with experience to take care of it all. And, if it will cost several thousands of dollars as Cysco says, I need to win a fellowship first.

Georgette Skolnick, coupled with the advice given and depending on what you have readily available, you may be able temporarily to accomplish more than anticipated. Of course as you await, more will come in commentaries. Also I've sent you a network request, you can DM me if necessary, to help with general assessment!

Georgette it may be worth your while to reach out to animators.A young animator may be interested in going into an artistic partnership with you.And rather than just doing something for festivals you can earn directly from it while building a following. You could approach film schools etc and do something similar. As people starting out I assume are looking at building a portfolio and gaining experience if it has to be live action. You could do them in radio play style.I know more than 1 person all be it doing sci-fi or horror that do that and just have a single image and put it on Youtube and make a decent living out of it.There is many options.

Georgette Skolnick - Gisele Orellana has such great points. If you can find a producer who's done short films, that will help get you started as well as figuring out which story you want to tell. That will start to tell you what kind of cost when you know cast, locations and other things needed for the story. All the best to you!
