Hey Screenwriters crew!
We’re closing out Week 3 of November Write Club, and I’d love to hear from you:
• What did you achieve this past week?
• What are your goals as we head into Week 4?
My Update
I’m really happy to share that I achieved my major November Write Club goal one week early! Today I finished writing the screenplay for The Misstep — a total of 97 pages. My plan was to complete it by November 28, but focus, resilience, and dedication made it happen sooner than I dreamed.
Because of this milestone, I’ve set a new goal for Week 4: polish the screenplay for The Misstep so it’s ready for packaging and the festival circuit in 2026.
Community Check-In
This week’s blog reminds us how important it is to make a strong first impression when meeting execs, producers, and reps. Achievements like these, and the habits we build to persevere, are what prepare us for those opportunities.
So let’s celebrate together:
• Share your Week 3 wins
• Tell us your Week 4 goals
And let’s keep encouraging each other as we push through November!
Happy FriYAY!

Hey, Sandra Isabel Correia. Happy FriYAY! Congratulations on finishing your major November Write Club goal one week early! I wrote a one-page script and made pitch material for it this week. I also thought of some script ideas, networked, and got my plan ready to do another rewrite of my feature script next week (the main project I’m working on for Write Club).

Hi, Maurice Vaughan. Happy FriYAY indeed! Thank you, I am really happy and proud of myself :)) Huge congratulations on all the progress you’ve made this week. A one-page script plus pitch material is such a smart move , concise but powerful, and it shows real versatility. I love that you’re already thinking ahead with new script ideas and networking while keeping your feature rewrite in focus for next week.
Cheering you on as you dive into the rewrite, sounds like you’re setting yourself up for a strong finish this month!

You're welcome, Sandra Isabel Correia. Thanks. I'm going to make a post this weekend about my experience writing the one-page script and share some tips. One-page scripts are hard to write sometimes.

Sandra Isabel Correia Hi Sandra!!! I also reached my November goal, I finished my first Christmas screenplay!!! It's ready, as it can be, been vetting it, editing, and reviewing, and it's off to the races. The last week of November, my goal is to actually reflect, be grateful, and prepare for some pitch and exec meetings I have coming up in December, so lots of research, preparation, and confidence. We have lift off!

I had an incomplete short film script stored in my drawer. I talked to Maurice, and he encouraged me to put it into practice. I started rewriting it last Tuesday and finished yesterday. It's a horror script that I think has potential. Do you think I should write another one for next week? Because I was thinking about that goal.

I think you should write another short script, John January Noble. You can pitch short scripts, write them as practice, and use them as writing samples.

Maria Caeiro, thank you so much! I really admire your commitment; that’s what keeps the momentum alive even when the month feels challenging. The fact that the more you write, the more you enjoy it, is such a powerful sign that you’re on the right path. Progress isn’t always about hitting every deadline perfectly; it’s about showing up, staying dedicated, and letting the joy of writing carry you forward. Cheering you on your perseverance will pay off!

John January Noble, that’s fantastic. Congrats on finishing your horror script! Pulling something out of the drawer and bringing it to life shows real commitment. If you feel energized, setting a goal to write another short next week could be a great way to keep the momentum going. But even if you pause to polish this one or follow Maurice Vaughan great advice, you’re already building strong creative progress.

Sandra Isabel Correia Exactly, but I read an article by Adan... I forgot his last name :) here on Stage32. But he gave some great advice: move forward and focus on what you already have ready. Sandra, I read on a page you participate in, but I don't remember which one, that you talk about writing at ARC STUDIO, so I looked it up and ended up writing there. It's very good for writing scripts. Have a great week, Sandra!

Congratulations on finishing THE MISSTEP, Sandra Isabel Correia! That’s always a great feeling, especially when it happens early :D
I didn’t partake in week 3 of NWC (brain needed to recalibrate from finishing BoFS), but my goal for this week at least is to map SiR out, as well as CC (since I have HUGE plans for the remaining sequels, the series has indeed evolved into a heptalogy to do it all justice lol). Thankfully at this point in the game, I actually can see the end of the series so I don’t have to change my plans for the ending, the way there is just taking a bit of a detour on the way. So I’m kinda at the “ten” arc of kishōtenketsu for the whole series, therefore I’m planning all my remaining big twists and turns before the finale in Encore.

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh, thank you so much! Huge congratulations on finishing BoFS. Recalibrating after a big project is such an important step, and it’s inspiring to see how you’re already diving into mapping SiR and CC. A heptalogy is such an ambitious vision, and I love that you can already see the end of the series while embracing the detours along the way.
The “ten” arc of kishōtenketsu is such a thrilling stage; all those twists and turns before the finale in Encore sound epic. Cheering you on as you plan it all out; your momentum and clarity are incredible!

You’re welcome, Sandra Isabel Correia, and thank you as well :D my brain hasn’t been this energized since working on Petal (which incidentally is a heptalogy of novels, among other things) and getting burnt out on Seed lol (itself the fifth novel entry). Finding Elpis is definitely an extended metaphor of my writing journey and no doubt what my future as a creator might look like, so all those twists and turns are very much to be expected (and also why I ignore everyone who suggests a more contained plotline/climax for part 1). It’s also about what happens after you succeed which I don’t feel is explored as much as what happens before. Also also, it’s a meditation on something I’d wager the vast majority of people wouldn’t believe is actually a thing; the fear of success. Ever since one of my college friends told me about it, it’s stuck in my mind and in recent years I realised I was guilty of it myself. So that makes this project even more personal lol
The characters have so much room to grow in a heptalogy, and I’m excited for the adventures I get to go on with them, hopefully everyone else will be too when the series goes out into the wild (and boy am I fighting for that to happen lol). And yes, the “ten” part is real exciting indeed, particularly because it’s commonly a kind of narrative curveball that looks completely divorced from the first two stages but will make the ending even more impactful when you tie it all together in “ketsu.” And SiR and CC are gearing up to be REAL big curveballs so I’m super excited to tackle them :D

I wrote a "one sheet" ,more like five sheet, that I was really proud of. I think I finally realized how vital a one sheet is before going to draft. I used to treat it like a vague synopsis and figure I'll get to the details when I start writing. Now I think of it more as visualizing the scenes and really aiming to work out the character development and every nitty gritty turn so that I don't get lost or change the story midway once I start writing. I feel like a one sheet should take a few weeks to really distill and get feedback on. Once it's down, then that first draft is going to go so smoothly. My goals this week are to finish Act one mid-week and then go back and do an edit of it before I turn it in for my animation class.

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh, I love how deeply personal Finding Elpis is for you turning the fear of success into a creative meditation is such a powerful choice. It’s true that we often focus on the struggle before achievement, but exploring what happens after is such a fresh and necessary perspective.
A heptalogy gives your characters so much room to grow, and it’s exciting to hear how you’re embracing those curveballs in the “ten” arc of kishōtenketsu. That narrative detour will make the “ketsu” ending even more impactful, and I can feel your passion for the journey ahead. Cheering you on as you tackle SiR and CC. Your energy is contagious!

Maria Restivo Glassner, that’s fantastic! I love how you’ve reframed the one sheet as a deep dive into character and story rather than just a vague synopsis. Treating it as a blueprint for the emotional beats and scene flow will make your drafting process so much smoother, and it’s clear you’ve already unlocked that insight.
I’m cheering you on as you finish Act One and polish it for your animation class ; sounds like you’re building a strong foundation that will carry the whole project forward. I am cheering for you.

Thank you Sandra Isabel Correia, yes, it's also an ode to dreaming big which I've been praised for not being afraid to do, so the adventure is appropriately grand. And arguably the story is only really possible because it focuses on post-success, on top of achievements in ignorance. It also wouldn't be half as fun if the band got what they wanted, world fame.
Indeed, especially since now I have the room to explore all the adventures I had in mind that wouldn't have been possible in a shorter series (the plot necessitated the band being out of commission for two entries lol, both times it brought great conflict). Thanks so much, with any luck the writing gods will see me make great progress before my vacation lol~ hope you get good and fired up, too!
