"Oh What Fun" - New Christmas Movie- Filmmaking Beyond Hollywood, CA

Howdy / Hello / Jingle Bells!

Let's get a conversation going on this new Christmas / Holiday film.

'Oh What Fun" is a new Amazon / MGM holiday movie starring Michelle Pfeiffer, Denis Leary, Felicity Jones, and more amazing actors.

It's the story of a mom, played by Michelle P., who has been taking care of all holidays, super mom, weeks and weeks of preparing, cooking, cleaning, planning, and nobody seems to see it. No appreciation, and everything expected. Then, on Christmas Eve, they leave her behind, forget her, do not notice she is not in the cars off to a concert she had planned for them.

I won't spoil anything, so stopping here, but, two things to share, and talk about:

1. Local films! This was shot in Houston, TX!

2. Diverse lenses and stories in the Holiday spectrum.

How would you bring a story to your city, state, country, and make it a local story? Holiday, family, action, any genre even. And how does the changing landscape, of indie filmmaking, more female-driven stories, and the space that is being left for the future screenwriters, empowering you, inspiring you, even challenging you?

Cheers y'all!

Wow, I’m not really a fan of Christmas movies, but this sounds interesting, I’ll have to check it out.

Honestly, any story set in an unconventional location immediately becomes more interesting. Especially if you’ve lived in that location or know a lot about it.

Juliana Philippi

Kseniia Zhuravleva Absolutely, new locations, out of the box thinking is the way ahead. It's a really cool film, the relationships are sharp, witty, and very easy to connect to.

Jingle Bells, Juliana Philippi! I'm looking forward to seeing this movie! I would set a story at the university here (ECU). Probably an Action, Action Comedy, Horror, or Holiday script. I mainly write indie scripts and female-driven stories.

Juliana Philippi

Maurice Vaughan ECU! I know where that is in NC! Fabulous. Yes, that would be a great location, I could see like a Horror-Holiday...I can see you writing this...I know Horror is your vibe! And this can also fit the indie film and female driven. I have so many ideas already for you on this! lol

Maurice Vaughan

I took my SAT at ECU, Juliana Philippi, and Sandra Bullock went there. I'm actually rewriting a Horror Holiday feature script, and I came up with a Horror Holiday short script idea today.

Thanks Maurice for your advice.

Juliana Philippi

Maurice Vaughan Yes Maurice! I am so excited to hear more about your idea. ECU is also such a lovely campus, gorgeous land all around. Love Sandy B!!! Love her.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Catherine Mercer. Thanks for the advice. Congratulations on potential clients approaching you! I'm looking forward to seeing the movie!

Maurice Vaughan

Thanks, Juliana Philippi. I'm excited to share about both scripts! One is kind of like Home Alone. Sandra Bullock is one of my favorite actresses.

Juliana Philippi

Ooohhh, Home Alone is due for some sort of revival-esque moment, with a horror twist...that sounds exciting. I love her, I think she is so multi-faceted, grounded, funny! and also amazing with drama.
