Screenwriting Instructor says "99% of the scripts fail at the premise is because..."

I watched a video on youtube where an instructor tells why most screenplays fail at the premise is because the writer ends up choosing the wrong genre for what they are writing. He says that every genre has it's own hero, nemesis, storyline, and plot. If you don't understand the those basic concepts of the particular genre you are writing in, you end up writing a broken story that would not engage audiences, because even though audiences don't understand genre fully, they know what they are going to pay for to see. Do you agree or disagree? http://youtu.be/Z7Fh9T3yJUU <--- 3min vid. What do you think?
