Taking a novel to a screenplay

Has anyone here written a novel, and then had success selling the rights to it to be adapted to a television or film screenplay?

Maurice Vaughan

Hi, Sarah Foulke. I haven't, but here's a post about adapting a book into a screenplay: www.stage32.com/lounge/playwriting/Let-s-Talk-Adaptation-Turning-Your-Bo...

Ooh! Thanks!

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Sarah Foulke.

Stephen Folker

I directed / helped produce a film last year that was based on a novel. While I cannot share the exact details, usually the writer (you) would get a small option payment. Depending on how known you are it's either a lot or as low as $1.

What's your book about?

Sarah Foulke

Well, I have a sci-fi 2-part novel that I always thought would make a good movie. And a 5-part women's contemporary fiction series that I thought would be well-suited to like Hallmark Channel movies or a series. Something like that.

Mark Deuce

I wrote screenplays and then made them novels Sarah Foulke and best of luck!

I'm curious, Mark Deuce , did you notice any better success in selling novels versus screenplays?

Mark Deuce

Yes, for sure Sarah Foulke I have sold thousands of books Versus ZERO Scripts so far, but that is about to change. Have a wonderful weekend!
