Uploading Scripts on Stage 32

I'm very wary of uploading to this site because I'm pretty sure that it says in the rules that any material uploaded to this site becomes owned by the site to do with as they please. Here is a quote from the uploading conditions: "You hereby grant to Stage 32, LLC and the Stage 32 trademark licensor a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicenseable and transferable license to reproduce, distribute, display, perform and otherwise use the Content, and to make derivative works of and from the Content and similarly use such derivative works, in connection with the Stage 32 Website and with any and all Services provided by the Company and/or other Stage 32 trademark licensees as set forth or otherwise contemplated by this Uploading Agreement and/or the Stage 32 Membership Agreement."

Yeah I think so unless you have a the rights tp said material. If I posted a quote by Shakespeare it wouldn't belong to the sites as a royalty. Since those rights are already reserved but the sight can erase or use said material as examples or as publicity. The cite can make no claim to ownership if you own the rights

Rik Carter

This condition is quite standard for websites. That's why I would never post a script here.

Dustin: It pays to read eh?

Marvin Willson

Kind of sad really.

Virginia Shine

Ah the legal department :-)

To provide the facility for sharing your content, they need a license from you to distribute your content without being sued by you. Some sites might translate your content, thus creating a derivative work. However the problem is the general nature of the license which states the general right to create a derivative work rather than specifically stating "translate your content". It would be better to post the script on your own website if you want it public and create a link from here.

David Lewis

Well isnt copyright and patent law attributed to any post when time stamps or proof of concept or idea are presented via correspondence

Dustin Bowcott

@Cory - Yeah I'm sure they have it better defined in the Membership Agreement... not that I've checked. Even if that is the case though they should make it more clear exactly what they mean by derivatives. @David, It's not the copyright that is the problem, it is what we allow them to do with our work that is.
