Hey guys, does anyone have any experience using the microphone atr2100 for vo? I am setting up my home setup and I think the mic by itself is good for beginners but I still feel like I need some kind of sound proofing around me. Is there any portable booth setup that I can do for cheap at home?

Hi Shalaka, I think a lot depends on the space you have to work with. If you're looking for portable or semi-portable there are a few solutions out there. Sweetwater sells the Primacoustic VoxGuard http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/VoxGuard for around $100. There's the Harlan Hogan Porta Booth for abou $350 from Amazon http://amzn.com/B003JZOW98. There's the Kaotica Eyeball for around $200 http://kaoticaeyeball.com/buy-kaotica-eyeball.html. And a DIY version for around $30 http://youtu.be/HFKAC92ycNI. I have a more permanent set up so I don't have any direct experience with any of the above. I do know someone who bought the Harlan Hogan one and had mixed results. Could have been the way they were using it, though. Hope that helps.
Hi Shalaka, I actually prefer the sE electronics one, it wraps around a bit better than the Primacoustic one. While the ATR2100 is a great starter-USB mic, having treatment that is worth double your mic's value may not be the "best" investment. Often packing blankets and crates can suffice for now with what you have, important thing is dulling the reflections in your room. Careful not to over do it though, otherwise you will start to sound "whoofy" You may want to look at a few other USB mics, if you can go to a guitar center or local music shop and test out some USB mics. The mics from BLUE often tend to be great too. You have to find the right mic to match your vocal type, which is really personal. There are some mics that I have to switch out on certain VOs because of sibilance problems, or low frequency foibles, etc...

Thanks Tim. I will look into all those. Samuel, I guess I should have asked this way before......just got my ATR2100 delivered. I will check into the blanket and crates DIY combo too and see if it works. Though like you said, if this mic does not work for my voice then I guess it will be a start again...from stupid scratch. :) Thanks guys for your help.
Hey Samuel, sorry for bothering you. I would like to get your advice if you have a minute. Can I send you my demo to get recommendations for which mics I should test? I dulled the reflections but I guess I might have to upgrade to a new mic. I am still little clueless where to start. Atr2100 is great for not worrying about room noise but it does not pick up as clearly when my voice goes little lower. It also does not sound as warm as in my demo which I did in a studio. I am not trying to compare it to my demo but somewhere closer and warmer. My friend who recommended atr2100 to me may not have thought of this. Any further advice would be great! Thanks in advance!
