Screenwriting : What To Do by Gary R. Winstead

What To Do

I am a published author but have never attempted a screenplay so as a change of pace I thought I might try my hand. I write cowboy adventures and they sell rather well. I have one that is currently selling and one in editing. They are quit different in nature: so my question is>>> Do I try to adapt one about a boy and his pony that was not rideable or do I try one about a rodeo cowboy that through luck makes it to the finals of the NFR in Vegas and how he is able to come from 16th in the world and win the average. Thanks for the feedback

Cherie Grant

is the one about a boy and his pony family friendly? if so i'd go with that. Rodeos irk a lot of people.

Liz Correal

THink you would need to consider what audience you want to reach. The first story line sounds great for children and young adults. While the second is more adult.

Gary R. Winstead

Cherie and Liz, good points, yes the pony one is family friendly and has a happy ending. The second is pure adult

Anthony Cawood

The rodeo one may have a limited audience, and probably wouldn't do well outside of the USA, boy and his pony has more universal appeal... imho

Kerry Douglas Dye

The rodeo one also sounds (based on the limited info) pricier. Boy and his pony all the way.

Richard Toscan

Boy and His Pony... seems to be considerable interest in family friendly scripts.

Robert Premus

Hey Gary, Do both. It's difficult to say who wants what because the market is so diverse. Do the one you love the most first. Just so you know, Australia has a decent market for Western and Prospecting/Small Time Mining stories.

Cherie Grant

LOL Robert, Australia has NO market for anything film or TV wise. It's deader than Ned Kelly.

Phillip E. Hardy, "The Real Deal"

If you can write a rodeo script like "Junior Bonner", you might just have something.

Gary R. Winstead

Phillip, my rodeo story is kind of the mirror opposite of Jr. B. instead of a last chance this is a first chance at the gold buckle. due out in Dec. just in time for the NFR, my Publisher really likes it.

Mr. Thimothy, again, please refrain from soliciting within threads. Promotion should be done in the "promotion" section of the site. Thank you.
