I use FD and CeltX on my desktop at home but want a portable solution. is FD on the iPad work paying the premium App Store price for? Any user experiences?

I have used FD and CeltX on my iPad, now only use FD, it's expensive for an app but it's got a pretty decent feature set... which is where CeltX app lost it for me... too much you couldn'd do on the iPad... plus FD has Dropbox support so I can sync scripts whilst keeping them constantly bcked up,

it is expensive Anthony and yet you are so right. I've been very happy with FD on the iPad and can't wait for the new iPhone version for free as extra backup. It's helped me write on the move, when lugging a large laptop wouldn't really do. It's not a replacement for FD, but it's a great tool. And Celtx was useless without a subscription to the online service.
So you guys actually write scripts on your ipad? Do you have a blue tooth keyboard, or you simply use the touchscreen?

Hi Jean-Pierre, I tend to use it for rewriting more than writing. When I need to take an already completed draft on the move and read through and start pecking away at each sentence to enhance the clarity etc or adding in new scenes. it's great for writing entire short scripts. I suppose that it's doable to write a feature on it, but I prefer doing my first drafts / planning stages definitely on a desktop first - as I often go there from Scrivener first and then into FD.

I love using final draft on my iPad . I use Dropbox as well so I can switch back and forth from a draft on my comp and iPad. I used to type with my thumbs only which works, but did get a keyboard . I bought it when it was on sale at the very beginning so it wasn't to expensive.

I use a eally nice Logitech keyboard/case, great for use when travelling and really easy to write on.
Ah yes, forgot to say I use a Logitech keyboard case, connecting via bluetooth - and considering I'm using an iPad mini, it's still easily usable for long periods (once you adjust to the size and learn which functions certain multi-use buttons do) and the best is that i can write even in cramped trains when balancing on one knee, or in planes when the person in front puts their seat back; something I can't do with a 15inch MBpro.

It's the compactness of the iPad that is making me consider it. It used to have a 15" MacBook with FD on it but barely used it except in the house, where I have my desktop anyway. I tried getting a netbook instead but still quite bulky and heavy to chuck in my messenger bag. An iPad is the perfect size to take with me anywhere, even if I have to chuck in a bluetooth keyboard too as hey weigh next to nothing.

@Gav, I think you'll find an iPad with a keyboard an ideal solution for all the reasons you stated, I love mine!
There's a new FD Writer App now available for iPhone and iPad, currently on sale at $14.99 -- that's a sale? Well, I guess it is with a list of $29.99. http://www.finaldraft.com/products/final-draft-iphone-ipad?utm_source=Fi...
Careful if you are upgrading your iPad app... I did it yesterday and it kept glitching out, had to uninstall and then re-install, seems okay now and I finally have it on my iPhone too... wrote a couple of pages over lucnch!
Aha - I never upgrade during, and wait until at the end of what I'm working on. It's something like I learned from years of video editing, to my cost.
What is the difference between last iPad version and the newer Universal iPad and iPhone app?
Not sure Gav - don't know where they publish the details of what's different from one upgrade to another. I would guess though that this new one has necessary support in order to work from phone or ipad and desktop
I can't believe after all this time still NOTHING for android that will allow you to open and write .fdx files.
@gav - think the change is that there's now an iPhone version when there wasn't before, was using the iPad version last night and didn't notice anything significantly different.

@Michael - believe there's an app called DubScript that accepts fdx files as an input and can output as fdx too.
I love the FD app. Only thing I’d wish they add with the higher end iPads is the ability to use pen. Right now i have to export it to adobe pdf app to do my corrections. Still pretty seamless. As for key board the newer iPads have the attached you buy as a cover. On a final plus the upgrades for the app are not like software where you buy newer version. I use 10 in FD on computer, when i use script from iPad it says done on newer version of FD. Not a problem because its seamless but good to know you don’t have to keep buying upgrades.
