Hello everyone, I was wondering if it were better to write spec scripts or shooting scripts when creating short films. I do understand that if it were for personal use, it would not matter as much. But what about when submitting to, for instance, contests or festivals of some sort? Do they look for a certain way of writing? Thanks and Happy New Year

I would say write a readers script not a shooting script. Shooting scripts are what directors write after they get a spec from someone and decide to take on the project.

Always write spec scripts unless you are directing it yourself and don't submit shooting scripts to competitions, festivals or readers... as Geoffrey said, these are written when someone actually takes on the project.
Wonderful, thank you Geoffrey and Anthony. I'm so eager to start my new writing projects. I just need to make sure I'm on the right path.
No prob always happy to give my two cents.
