Anything Goes : Any female writers here? by Eddie Wabusabi

Any female writers here?

I have been mulling over an idea for a script for quite some time now but i feel the story could use a female writer. I haven't the slightest clue of how long it will be in the end but don't i want that to be the main focus either. I want it to be a powerful collaborative piece where two talented writers come together to make something that will impact various groups. This particular film will be categorized as a drama. If you think this is something you might be interested in, please, comment below.

Not enough to go on

Lol, hard to say since you've basically told us nothing about the story.

This story does have a gay theme involved but it is not the main focus of the story. The main character is a musician who loves playing the cello and is damn good at it too. He has been street performing and saving money from his performances to have enough to book an auditorium to hold a larger audience, in hopes that someone will notice him. He ends up booking the auditorium and decides to tell his parents his sexuality on opening night, through a timed email. The day before his big day the auditorium decides to cancel his booking and go with someone else who they think will bring in more revenue than he will. The email is still sent out due to his lack of ability to get to any internet. He put all of his earnings and savings into this opportunity and is soon thrown out of his apartment along with receiving disownment news from his parents. There's more to it obviously but i am refraining from posting anymore of the story

Why doesnt musician just make youtube videos? Its 2016.

Eddie, I'm a dramatist with a theatre background. If the protagonist "booked an auditorium," that's like booking a Reception Hall for a wedding. As long as your check clears, the room is reserved. Why? Protagonist paid for it. The auditorium cannot legally cancel his booking. As written, your premise makes no sense.

JD Hartman

"He ends up booking an auditorium...", which mean a contract was signed, they are usually a binding agreement. If terminated the check would be returned, he wouldn't lose all his money and consequently his apartment...., try again. Even penniless, most states have laws about evicting a non-paying tenant. I think it's time for a story re-write.

Aray Brown

I agree with JD and LindaAnn, it's unrealistic. Maybe there can be a rival musician who fights for the booking, puts up twice as much or something. They back out and book him instead, gives your MC his money back

JD Hartman

Hall owners can't back out of a contract like that. Premise of the story is just weak. Maybe you collaborator needs to be a business or law major as well as female?

Danny Manus

Much like everyone else, I agree the premise and the logistics are weak and I'm not sure why she can't get her money back or get to the Internet. I'm assuming she has a cell phone. But the larger issue is that this sounds like a situation, not a story. And that's a common occurrence in scripts. You have to ask yourself what makes this idea Cinematic? Where is the external conflict? A girl plans a performance and the performance gets cancelled. ok....and? Why can't she post to social media? Coming out stories don't have the cache value they used to because it's so common and accepted these days. ok, she's gay....and? There needs to be something different and special and believable about his story to make it stand out. good luck with it!

Hahaha you guys are awesome! You caught onto the "hole" in the story. No, i assure you that was done on purpose. I wanted to see if this site was actually active as I've heard it to be. The premise of this particular story is better than what was written above. I am a bit shy to give out the exact information online for everyone to see so if you'd like to discuss this a bit further email me. mr.wabusabi@gmail.com Yes, he would've gotten his money back. (How could that be even legal if he already booked it and signed the contract -_-) No it will not be a girl in this piece (as a main character). Yes he does get kicked out of his place (as he hasn't paid rent in a little over two months). And yes, the internet is everywhere. Yes, pretty much everyone has a smartphone or someway of gaining access to it . :) All of that is common knowledge lovelies!

@Owen Mowatt - hey babydoll! How are you? We are in production on our documentary film. My film partner also just published a biography on Vincent "Mad Dog" Coll and I am doing a new bio on Texas Guinan (as a graphic novel). Catch me up on your news, too, Owen! Good wishes to all my friends here!
