Screenwriting : Correct way to go. by Stuart Aston

Stuart Aston

Correct way to go.

Script is done, why did i write it, to entertain all, nothing like it as been produced before. Who will it appeal to?, All, smile bold statement , Remember the date you read this post. Difficulty for me now is, who do i approach without getting rip-off merchants.

Pierre Langenegger

What are you actually asking for?

Craig D Griffiths

Stuart I am guessing this is your first script. But there are thousands of new scripts produced every year. Try inktip.com or some of the big contests. If you live in LA I suggest networking and someone will ask to read your work. The only advice I can give you is. You have the product, so you get paid (like in standard commerce). If someone asks for money, that will pretty much indicate a rip off.

Stuart Aston

Craig D Griffiths Thank you , if ok i shall return to your reply later.

Stuart Aston

Pierre Langenegger.Thankyou for your reply. Its a 30 min chat with some one who is honest, from that i will know that all systems will be go.

Pierre Langenegger

I certainly hope you won't be as vague in your 30 minute chat as you are here. A chat with who and for what purpose? Stop beating about the bush, Stuart, if you want to progress your career and get things moving, you have to be proactive and let people know what you're trying to achieve.

"All" is not an answer. You need to know who your specific target audience is. Why would someone rip you off? How does that make sense? If they take your screenplay and put a new title page on it, you take them to court where it will be very easy to prove copyright violation. If they "steal your idea" they still have to hire someone to script it, and that person will be more expensive than just buying your script. Just a warning: the average pro writer wrote 9 screenplays before making a cent. So if this is your first screenplay, there's a good chance that it's like my first screenplay - and sucks. You know how you get to Carnegie Hall? "Practice, practice!" Same is true with screenwriting.

Stuart, the main problem you'll have it not being in LA! I have a script that's been read by an established screenwriter there (and an NYC lit agent), both say it's right for the market, but no one in LA is interested in looking at it, or even talking to me because I'm in the UK. Unless you're prepared to go to LA and 'do meetings', you'll be very lucky to get anyone to even read it.

Stuart Aston

Thank-you Steve,I shall return to you . PS where in UK are you.

Stuart Aston

Dan, cheers, as you may gather, I am not up to speed with this.

Stuart Aston
