What organizations and memberships should a beginning screenwriter join? Are there any organizations that make your resume stand out (ex: Tribeca Film Institute, NYWIFT, Film Society of Lincoln Center) or do you have any other suggestions on which groups to join?

The best thing to include on your resume? Produced scripts.

I third that. This isn't really a resume job - your spec screenplays are your resumes.

I fourth that. And I'm glad I took fourth, because I'm really tired of taking the fifth. I did boost a resume once. I boosted William Martell's resume while living in France, and got three paid writing gigs. Merci beaucoup, Monsieur Martell!

I once had a meeting with a producer after they read one of my scripts, and the guy had no idea I'd ever had anything produced. I had a DVD of CRASH DIVE in my bag and he put it in his player and then kept saying, "You wrote this? You wrote this?" during the opening submarine sequence. He didn't know I had any credits... just liked my script.

Jaclyn ... The Garden State welcomes you. If you haven't already, I would subscribe to the ScriptNotes podcast. Lots of great ideas from John and Craig

No one will ever ask to see your resume and no one cares about any of that stuff. the only organization they care about in terms of membership is WGA.
