I'm new to the entire creative process. My first script is in the bag and I look forward to getting my optimism cut down at the knees :D I heard that happens more often than not. Looking around this place, being surrounded by so many talented people.....it's overwhelming, but I did want to say hello. If you're reading this, we're now best friends, so CONGRATS! There's nothing like coming on too strong, amirite? :)

I like your "getting my optimism cut down at the knees" comment, Beth. Shows great wisdom at an early stage. The reality is you'll hear "no" many more times than "yes" in this business. You'll deal with hundreds of opinions, some wise, some coming from a self-serving place. You'll deal with petty jealousies. It's all about having a thick skin. It's all about listening, digesting and making your own choices. It's all about controlling what you can control. The most successful people in this industry simply stayed the course. They continued to believe. They made the choice to grow every single day. Be you, be true.

If the internet has taught me anything, it's how to have a thick skin. Every single critique I've gotten has only made my script better. Hearing "It's great. Love it." doesn't really help me much. lol I finally entered a few contests. I don't expect to even be a finalist but the feedback, in my opinion, is worth the price of admission.

Absolutely the right attitude, Beth. You need to surround yourself with people who understand that giving you their honest opinion isn't being mean or deflating. There's simply no growth that way. Good on you for entering those contests! I say this often around here, but be sure to only enter contests that give you access to decision makers if you show well.

Honest and genuine enthusiasm is never "too much". We're all here to help each other...and that includes you. So, anytime you care to share your writing efforts there's a ton of hungry eyes willing to learn from your genius AND screw-ups.

I had a friend read my script after the 1st draft. They went out of their way to point out everything they loved. When I asked for critiques, I got nothing. I said "Well, I love you and you've been no help at all". hahaaaa
