Ohhh Miggity-Mae West, you so crazy!
Actually, Elisabeth, Mae broke an ankle in a NYC hotel room. The Baltimore hospital was treating her for a stomach ailment. I don't know what testing was done -- but Mae was developing maturity onset diabetes at the time.
