Affordable film festivals to submit to?

Would you please recommend some inexpensive film festivals to submit to? My documentary is ready for submission! At $40 here and $55 there the cost is adding up quick! I would like to submit to 3 and keep it at $100 if possible! Thank you for any advice!

Film Freeway is a great source for entering festivals they list most of the ones that matter. No matter the price.

David E. Gates

There are plenty of free festivals to enter. Most of the paid ones are, IMO, only making the organisers richer.

David- I agree The organizers are getting richer. Austin, Sundance, Tribeca. And there are plenty of free festivals to enter. Cherelynn has options. But one point and just my opinion, What is more important getting you film sold and distributed or saving money? Tough choice I know but this is again just my opinion.

Most of the free-to-enter festivals have no value except for bragging rights to family & friends. The major festivals are much much harder (almost impossible without well-known cast) to get into, but if your film gets in, you will get a boost in your filmmaking career. Considering your film is a documentary (cast factor is not relevant in this genre), I would recommend you submit to the major festivals.
