Screenwriting : Threads gone... POOF by Doug Nelson

Threads gone... POOF

I've recently noticed that a few threads in this forum that were getting interesting (at least entertaining) have suddenly vanished. I suspect the forum gods/goddesses have a hand in this censorship – I think it's sad. But then, what do I know?

Alan B. Cox

Here today, gone tomorrow. Now I don't know where to go to take that class.

Beth Fox Heisinger

I have not deleted a thing. Nada. Nothing. Zero. There is specific criteria for member moderators and staff to follow. There are no gods and goddesses. Original posters have the option and the ability to edit and delete their own posts. My assumption, looking over the forum, is that Phillip Hardy, or "Uncle Phil," decided to delete two of his own, erasing all comments made on his threads. I personally find the deletion of threads disappointing as well because just like others who commented I lose my personal time, effort and participation too. There are members that I choose not to comment on their posts because they have a tendancy to delete.

Doug Nelson

If that's the case, all I can say is Shame, Shame on you Uncle Phil - you've cut us off just as Act II is just getting started.

Beth Fox Heisinger

I was both disappointed and shocked by the Diversity or Talent post. It was valuable because it exposed attitudes. But... Nothing in those two posts or their threads fit any strict S32 criteria to warrent action from a moderator or staff to delete. Sorry, I'm certainly not your scapegoat nor is any other moderator or staff person. Healthy debate is always welcome. If anything, personal arguments or issues that stray away from topic and hijack a thread and the forum are asked to return to topic or move on.

Rhondda Walker

Thank you very much Richard

In answer to my own question: the older I get and the more I learn - the less I seem to know.

Dan, it's my view that when someone flames you, that you pull up your asbestos Huggies and stand your ground.

Laura, I don't know that for a fact.

Beth, I agree that it was valuable in an odd sort of way.

Brad, huh?

Rhonda, who is this Richard you speak of - just a wisp of smoke?

Uncle Phil, lick your wounds and come on back - any screenwriter worth his salt has to have a hide thicker than an elephant.

Beth Fox Heisinger

The only person who knows why he deleted his two recent posts is Phillip. He's done it before under similar circumstances. And it is his choice to do so -- as it is for ALL members who create a post thread.

Let's please stop speculating. This has little to do with screenwriting. Most people here are on S32 to ask craft questions, to engage and network, to share resources and information, to share personal experience and insights, and to help others. So let's please allow the forum to move on. Thanks!

Beth Fox Heisinger

Laura, yes, that is what I said -- "to share resources and information, to share personal experience and insights, and to help others." Which implies answering questions. This forum is about screenwriting. This thread is about a grievance with a member who chose to delete his posts.

Beth Fox Heisinger

Yes, I did. But no harm, no foul. And... moving on. ;)

LindaAnn Loschiavo

In other words . . . thread - BARE! Doug Nelson Yeeeps.

Beth Fox Heisinger - even if you have no magic wand, and you don't say "poof!" you are OUR goddess!

Alan B. Cox

What I miss most about that post was "MOVE ON..."

Judith Ann Mc Dowell

Hi All,

I have a quick question for all here.

When a screenwriters' work is optioned, what can she expect monetarily?

It has been my belief that it depends on the film's budget and then the screenwriter is offered 10%.

I would appreciate any info given.

Thanks,

Judith

Dan MaxXx

Judith Ann Mc Dowell Screenwriters don't get 10% of budget. That's fantasy.

Judith Ann Mc Dowell

Thank you, Dan.

Beth Fox Heisinger

Judith, I would kindly suggest starting a new post and thread as your question and its topic is not related to this thread's topic. Perhaps a new post will yield further commentary and discussion about options and what to expect. Could be helpful to other screenwriters. :)
