So today, my 2 of my filmmaker friends and I decided to challenge ourselves. The challenge? To shoot different versions of the same script. It's our exercise to see our different identities and abilities as filmmakers and how we tell and bring a story to life. We chose not to direct material any of us had written so we come into the material fresh. I was wondering if anyone here had any reject scripts for short films that you're willing to share or know any resource where we can find them? Don't worry. We'll give you a screenwriting credit on IMDb for all the versions.
Hi Neo,
I had a similar idea years ago, never went through with it. How long of a script do you want? Do I get a share of any prize money too (if it wins festivals)?I have a short, 5-7 minute, two character script that might work.
It says you're in the Philippines. What kind of locations do you have easy access to?
Sounds fun anyway.
Hello Vasco Phillip de Sousa! You should try it. I think it's a great exercise and just an overall fun activity. Of course, although, we highly doubt we'll be entering it on any festivals. Well as for the locations, we have cityscapes and parks and residential suburbs.
Hello Neo Bryce ,
I sent you the script by email. Let me know if it works for you.
I've seen that done in a couple of film schools where a small skit script (2-4 min) was given to three different directors actors & crews to shoot independently (with no knowledge of the other projects). When finished, all three were shared, shown at a festival and the three filmmaker groups shared and discussed their thoughts and reasoning. Very educational.
