Hey, screenwriters! I’m new here and wanting to learn more about the screenwriting community.
I am part of the Page Turner Awards team, and we have a really exciting Screenplay Award this year. The judging panel features lots of high-profile film producers who are looking for work to option and includes Paul Michael Glaser of Starsky and Hutch!
We’ve started a screenwriting forum on our website, where screenwriters can connect and collaborate. We want to make this useful for screenwriting community, so perhaps you can help with some of the questions.
What advice would you give to writers who are looking to turn their novel into a screenplay? What courses/webinars can you recommend for an aspiring screenwriter? What award prizes would be most valuable to you and your career development?
Thanks for your help and looking forward to meeting you.
Regards
Charlotte

Hi Charlotte,
with regards to Awards, it's probably Nicholl and Austin that are recognized as some of the most prestigious ones.
The courses on here are absolutely fabulous and have helped a lot.

As Ronika said.
Not all novels can be made into films. They are different forms of story telling for a reason. If a novel has visual and is cinematography in nature it is easy.
Writing is the best form of education. For me podcasts that have other writers. Being told that there is a method of creating art is not an approach I am comfortable with. Yes there are similarities in forms. But we have Rembrandt and Banksy both using paint.

Hi Charlotte,
What advice would you give to writers who are looking to turn their novel into a screenplay?
Don't be married to the story and words in the novel. Appreciate that the structure and form of each are different and that the goal is to find the best dramatic story in screenplay form.
What courses/webinars can you recommend for an aspiring screenwriter?
Start with reading script - LOTS of them. Read Screenplay by Syd Field and Writing For Emotional Impact by Karl Iglesias
What award prizes would be most valuable to you and your career development?
Pitch meetings with industry professionals looking to develop stories in the winning genre.

When it comes to awards for screenwriters, I couldn't go past anything that connects me with Producers and an opportunity to pitch my work.

What advice would you give to writers who are looking to turn their novel into a screenplay? Don't. Let Employers pay you $$ for the right to hire a professional screenwriter to adapt.
What courses/webinars can you recommend for an aspiring screenwriter? Lots of free webinars, podcasts, TED talks, clubhouse talks. Find a genre you like and learn/steal from people doing it for a living.
What award prizes would be most valuable to you and your career development? I would aim for corporate paid fellowships. There is a track record of success by writers from Sundance, Warner Bros, Disney.
Hi everyone! Wow, thank you so much for this great advice. I'm sure we can use this to offer great support prizes to the screenwriters who enter our awards. Thanks again!
Thanks, everyone! Some great advice and recommendations here that I can't wait to share with our screenwriters.
Robert Mc Kee holds great courses also one here at Stage32
