Introduce Yourself : Canadian Native American Producer/Writer/Director/Editor by Gordon Loverin

Gordon Loverin

Canadian Native American Producer/Writer/Director/Editor

Hi my name is Gordon Loverin and I am from two Indigenous (Native American) cultures. I am Tlingit from the Taku River watershed and Tahltan from the Stikine River watershed, commonly known as Canada's Grand Canyon. Both are in northwestern British Columbia, CANADA. My Indigenous name is Yanna Tan which in Tlingit means leader of men and in Tahltan means salmon jumping over the falls.

I write narrative scripts about Indigenous culture, but I stay away from what I call the four pillars of stereotyping; alcohol and drug abuse, Indian Residential Schools, spousal abuse, and foster care. My stories focus on universal themes that explore the beauty and wonderment of Indigenous cultures. We are not a broken people and we have a gorgeous and enlightened culture I want other cultures to see.

Our scripts have placed in the Top 10 at the Cannes Screenwriting Contest and won the Tribal Film Festival writing contest in Oklahoma. We have been selected by Netflix for the right to pitch in its last Canadian Submissions Initiative. We were chosen from over 10,000 submissions.

I love Stage 32 and hope it will further my narrative writing and directing career.

Karen "Kay" Ross

Hey, Gordon Loverin! My name is Kay, I'm the Community Manager here at Stage 32. Nice to meet you and welcome to the community! If you'd like to learn more about myself and the Stage32 Team, we have an intro blog: https://www.stage32.com/blog/Meet-the-Stage-32-Team

WOW, what an inspiring background and mission you have! There are SO many people on here I want to introduce you to! LOL! But first, I would LOVE for you to post in the Filmmaking Lounge. Maybe you could speak a little about why you've chosen to stay away from those four topics and what you'd enjoy seeing more of: https://www.stage32.com/lounge/directing

Keep in mind that these lounges are like the VIP Filmmaker's Lounges at Film Festivals, so this is where you can meet the people doing the work, get advice on anything you're working on, and/or give back to those who may need advice. We're a very supportive and encouraging community! I think you'd also enjoy my intro blog post on how to engage with the Stage32 Community:

https://www.stage32.com/blog/Find-Your-Community-on-Stage-32

Enjoy exploring the lounges, and don't forget to comment and respond to others’ posts, too! It's the best way to really connect! And, of course, feel free to reach out at any time. Cheers!
