My name is Milan Seratlic, I'm from Toronto, Canada, and I just finished a 2-year course of Video Production at Durham College. I joined Stage32 a couple of months ago at the advice of one of my professors when I told her that I plan on becoming a narrative filmmaker, but I've been only recently able to be active here due to being busy with college assignments.
My skill level as of now is a jack-of-all trades, being able to properly wield a camera, write a script, direct shots and edit video without having the final product be a technical mess. I actually have a resume that I made with Wix that you can check out in my profile page so you can see what kind of video work I can do. I also have a couple of pictures and a poster here and there due to the 1st year of Video Production being shared with the Photography course, though I myself prefer to work with video rather than images.
Honestly, the only thing that is stopping me from doing creative stuff aren't financial issues, because I'm capable of making something with no budget whatsoever - it's the fact that I don't exactly have people to work with. That's one of the main reasons why I came to Stage32 - to connect with people and hopefully find someone who shares the same ideas and outlook and is willing to push themselves to make something work.
For the last part, don't worry - I will never make someone do something I personally wouldn't do - I try to be considerate of people's limits. Though then again, I did shave my entire head for a villain role in a 2-minute movie...Just kidding, just kidding - I'm willing to make any kind of compromise, if it keeps the project from suffering through development hell and keeps the project team happy, healthy and productive.
By the way, I wasn't kidding about the shaved head part - check the clip named "The Box" on my Wix website, it won that years film challenge.
Currently I'm working part time in retail, mostly due to boredom rather than actual monetary need as I search throughout the net and, like a patient poach- ahem, hunter, I wait for an ideal job application - hopefully one that doesn't require multiple years of experience - experience which I don't have. You can say that I'm kind of stuck in a catch 22 situation - I can't get a job because I lack the experience but to get said experience I need a job.
To not end on a downer note, I can happily say that I paid out all my college loans, so I'm completely free of debt!
If you have a comment, feel free to post it and I'll definitely read and reply to it!

I have co-written scripts with writers in your situation. Some of the most fun I have had writing. It's great to bounce ideas. Maybe a co-writer could help.

As a fellow Canadian, lemme say Welcome!
My advice: Test-taste each of the fine-wines of Filmmaking to see which you prefer to stick with best. The Pinot of Cinematography, the Riesling of Editing, the drip-pan of Screenwriting, etc. You'd have to have an unfathomable amount of patience to take on more than one craft at a time. Cheers!

Find TV/film sets in your area and work as either a paid or unpaid PA. You'll get to know people and get a lot of hands-on experience.
