Since this has helped me, i figure it will help others. Aspire to inspire right?
Once you found your voice/your writing style, i implore you to not let the opinions/feedback of others influence you to the point of meeting some cookie cutter standard. I've had this happen to me and i had to take a step back and re-examine. Yes we are writing moves but we have to paint a picture. If you can hook someone from start to finish, it doesn't really matter how much exposition and adverbs are on the page. At the end of the day, everyone has a personal preference. But that's all it is. What matters is the emotion you pour out of your characters/ your story and what the big takeaways are. When it comes to feedback, take the meat and throw away the bones. Don't ever lose your voice because someone is a stickler for "the rules" instead of taking the time to read your story. There are no rules! Only tools!

Love this, Aray!! I feel like it took forever to find my voice, but it was discovered, subconsciously over time.

It's so ironic. I just posted something right along with what you said (I'm getting two conflicting critiques on my writing style). A lot of great advice I've received from my post, but I'm glad I came across yours!
Happy Writing!

Well said. If you try to be something you are not, you are trying to be as generic as everyone else. You are better off being the first choice of one person, than everyone’s second choice.
We can all name the strange and unique looking actors, Ron Perlman, Steve Buscemi now think of all the good looking young men on the CW network. Are any of them truly memorial. They all look vaguely the same. Nothing of note. Be 100% to a small group. Be yourself.

Its always great to read a script that is clearly written with a unique voice. If it compliments the tone of the piece it can be a great help in getting the reader onboard with your story.

they are all writing samples. Majority of pro writers keep hammering that specs are just auditions. Win people over with your words & imagination. Employers want to hire artists, not typists.
@Dan MaxXx couldn’t agree more. How are your u btw?
